I'm not sure it is a good idea, but I've given customers and potential customers a copy of the ARMA bulletin. It says what they recommend for cleaning a roof and SH is mentioned.
If you have the same bulletin I have, I no longer use it because it says "bleach", not SH. If it actually said "SH" I'd be more apt to using it. The word bleach kind of cheapens the process.
The one I have says "bleach" also. I have not been using any masking agents so they smell it anyway. I know first hand that if they think they can do it with the bottle of bleach they have in the laundry room they won't get very good results.
(Come to think of it that is a post I wanted to make about my very first venture in trying to clean a roof, got to find those pictures)

The way I pitch it is, our custom blend has sodium hydrochloride witch is a type of Bleach NOT the clorox you can get at walmart, This is what gives you the clean roof the same day! and it tells us that our Algicide and Fungicide has covered the surface completely. Then They look at our sales book soon will be an IPAD Always Smile!

Hope this helps. Be honest
Very nice!!
We used to just tell every customer what was in it. Just use that simplicity and confidence and sell it. Now we just tell them Roof treatment, and how long it lasts and that it will be rinsed off eventually. Sometimes we run into a chemist or biologist and we just explain how it works. Sometimes they have some great info to share about what we are using too.
Confidence, nor selling is any problem of mine. Lets be serious, if a smart customer says whats in it, you say "roof soap". They say "whats in the roof soap?" You say "soap". They say "whats in the soap?" You say, "soap". they say "well whats in it?" and again you say "soap". Then they say "Wow what confidence you have. You got the job!"

Too funny! If they pry I let a lil info go! Yesterday HO was asking questions. He asked about his grass. I told him if I sprayed his grass and didnt wet it first and rinse rinse rinse that it would turn the grass to a milky substance!
Not for nuttin, we should all be on the same page. Some guys here may be the only certified in their area. But the day will come when someone gets more than 1estimate from more than 1 RCIA certified member. If we will use our certification in our presentation we should be consistent in our answers even if the answer is generic. People can easily come to this forum and find the truth. They have the right know. Or you could just tell em you have no idea what's in the soap and stop making mountains out of mole hills.
"It is a proprietary cleaner developed in conjuction with the roofing manufacturers. It is used by the certified roof cleaners of the RCIA. It does contain chlorine, a surfactant and other ingredients. If need be I can provide you with the MSDS for the main ingredients."
I have only had 1 person ever ask for the MSDS.

I think its like this. If they dont ask, not many do, dont waste time pulling out msds sheets, and over explaining yourself. If you harm their plants or kill their dog you will hear from the HO. If the job isnt a complete job, They will call.
The Home Owner just wants a clean roof.
There are atleast 4 certified RCIA washers already in Maryland. Roof shampoo, bigger power wash co's that do roofs, usually pitch witch roof broom and call it "rinsing". Guys with Clorox, and no pics yet on their site..... It aint as bad as Florida is yet, I'm sure.
That's honesty for ya! Haha, way to go, Gutterdog!
No kidding Phil! I did his dads house. The one where I had to separate all the DS. The rain water went to the pond in the back yard underground drains. The last roof washer killed his fish. Trophy Bass. This was a petting zoo also. I callled a week or so ago to see if the fish were ok. They are. Couple days later the son called n sold him a roof.
Before the wash, his girlfriend called. She has 2 old cats. I had to comfort her that I wouldnt kill her cats. They never asked the ingredients. Just wanted a clean roof.
How bout we just call it Clyde's Nunya roof soap. It works for me... I like it! Then if they still ask we'll tell them we don't really know whats in it call Clyde :)

I tell them it is chlorine based mixture of soaps.
I am currently working with a local chemist on a new surfactant. It is too costly for Lori to ship it & our local Unvar cost the same as Lori?
Ammonyx-lo is 30 % and the new stuff I am going to try on Saturday is 100 %... I received my free sample of Dwell Gel in the mail today. I will keep you posted.
