Trying to make the sale on this roof.

Local VFW post, very dirty roof and an extremely visible location.  If I can convince them to use our Non-Pressure Roof Cleaning I might cut them a deal on the price, because the visibility will result in a great return.

Figuring about 100 gal. of Love,  maybe a bit less if I get some Hang Tite.

How much of a price break should I give.  The visibility factor is tremendous.  Tons of traffic, the building is lower than the passing roadway and the roof is at eye level to passing motorists.

I think you should figure on more than 100 gallons. Visibility is only good if you can market yourself at the same time, and let everyone who see it know who cleaned it! WIll they left you put out signs fro an extended period? How about brochures inside for the patrons? If the answer is yes to both, and since its for the VFW, i'd do it for a very deep discount ( about 50% or more), but that just how I operate.

The benefit of getting that job may out way the price you get for it.  How many members do they have?  I agree you better figure more solution than 100 Gallons.  It's a light color roof you may have to hit some spots twice.  Let us know what happens.

I would agree that you may get a lot from this, but then again you may not.  Is it a chance that you are willing to take?  I know that I would.

Non-Pressure Roof Cleaning is a new thing in this area. Everybody coming into or going out of this town drives by there and see's this roof. I'm not considering lowballing this job, but I do think it will lead to other jobs and will offer a discount just not sure how much yet.

Might even cause a crash or two while we are doing the cleaning due to the gawkers. So great potential for some free entertainment too!!

Gene,

This is what I would do. I would wash the roof for free. Have the VFW contact all the local and media form let say 100 miles in each direction. People love when compaines do work for the ones who put thier life on the line for our freedom.

The publicty on that would show more of return then charging for the roof and hoping you get a job or two from passer bys. Just my .02

Like to hear what others would say!!

Bryan, I like that idea. Any time you do something for free, its good to get publicity for it. VFW is something lots of folks feel strongly about. Another compromise on that is to donate all your time, and just have the pay for materials. That way you are still "donating" the job.

Also, how about washing one half of the roof and leaving it for two weeks to really get some impact. Hang a 20 foot banner that says "SAFE ROOF CLEANING - 765-299-7642"

Make this an event, not just a job!

I love that roof, I would try and get them to pay for materials and donate labor and equipment to do it , then spend a whole day or 2 to get lots of exsposer.. but I dont think 100 gallons will cut it .... keep us posted

Bryan, good marketing idea. A lightbulb just lit up.

Remember VFW is a member only club, and you must be ex-milt. or drafted into the VFW by a family member. My Grandfather was a member from 18-95 years old. They are a tight group of great people...they also do projects for the public..hint hint

That is probably one of the easiest Roof Cleaning jobs you could do with the GREATEST amount of exposure and FREE publicity you could ever get. I would definitely see if the news media would do a spot on you and your company and maybe even a News Paper ad. See if you can get in their VFW newsletter too. suck it up and do it for the publicity. I'm sure YOU WON'T be sorry! Good Luck!

That roof should go for $1500 and up. Anywhere!

But if you can get enough publicity out of it 50% off is a great deal.
If you do it for free, get a tax deduction certificate and a ton of publicity.

+1.  I agree with you Brian, then again, as a member of the VFW, I'm likely biased.

Someone referred to the VFW as a 'club'.  Not to split hairs, but it's a non-profit, and you've had to have your a$$ in 'harms way' by being in an armed conflict abroad to be a member.  Please have a quick look at http://www.vfw.org/.

Respectfully,
Ted

Personally I think they are great ideas. However I like Rays the most. Half the roof cleaned w/ a banner for a week or two. If this really has the exposure I think you would be better off with this approach. I think it would really make an impression! I am actually considering doing that in a number of locations here in our area. Good luck!

I read over the post too fast and missed Ray's.  It IS a very good idea too.  it gets the job done for a very good cause AND provides a marketing venue as well. (A win-win)  Well thought through and thanks for sharing the idea.

Gene, I've been checking out a VFW in Zionsville that looks just like that, also on a very busy road. I'm very interested in how this goes for you. I have done (for cost) a town hall building thinking that it would lead to sales. It didn't. They wouldn't let me put up a sign.

I also did some (six) roofs in my town's park with the understanding that the maintenance guy would put a little thank you letter in the local paper. He didn't.

My advice after my experiences is to go ahead and ask a reasonable amount for the job. Make absolutely sure that you can put up a sign and maybe get the local paper (assuming Williamsport has one) to cover what you are doing. I like the idea of doing half and letting people see it for a while. I know that a roof like that will very likely take a lot more mix than you may think. It'll probably take three doses to look right, if it's like the ones I've done around here.

It is definitely tough around this area to get folks to understand what we do. You have a great opportunity to show off your skills to a whole community. I wish you the best of luck!

Kurt
same latitude, right down the road.
