Yes I will Pm you. also Idon't think I ever said it doesn't work. I said it's illegal and our company won't do it.
This is what you said:
"Think about this method, all it does is p-ss peopke off. Gues what all of a sudden your company is sh-t and the person who told you to do this is doing great because they don't litter. COME ON GUYS THERE IS BETTER WAYS TO ADVERTISE THAN THIS."
How could you know this without ever trying it?
This has less to do with actually throwing postcards than it does about people pretending to be experts on things they know nothing about. Especially when they've been in business less than a year.
It reminds me of me when I got started. Telling people why the 5800 was amazing and way better than anything else when I hadn't even tried anything else. I remember talking about how 1/2" was king when I hadnt tried 5/8". (I have now and 1/2" is still king :) )

Preach it Rev. Scott, except the part about 5/8 hose thing. I like my 5/8 hose. Wait, I have only used 5/8 I guess when I add my second reel I will use 1/2 hose so I can then make an honest comparison on which works best for me instead of just assuming my 5/8 is the only way to go.
Like I said Scott there's better ways to advertise. And for your information I have owned several small businesses over the past 15 years. We started cleaning roofs in 2009. So you wanna get into a pissing contest? You litter and we choose not to. O.K, end of story. Buy the way we use 5/8 if you care.
Like I said. How would you know. This business is different than all others. I'm not saying that it's even the best way, just the best way we've found. You may have a way that would blow rock flyers out of the water. If so, please tell.
Theres no pissing contest. Just don't berate people for doing things different than you. Most guys will like the rock flyers. Most guys walk roofs. Most guys use 1/2" hose. Doesn't make you better or more professional.
Get a few years under your belt, then you will earn some credibility.
Spend the last couple of days throwing post cards in a bag with a rock in driveways with dirty roofs. I have never received any complaints about doing this but I have wondered how people feel about advertising this way. Today I received an inqury from my web site from someone who received one of my post cards and he said this: "Your marketing iniatitve of dropping an informational piece in a bag with a stone on the driveway worked!" I have an estimate with him on Saturday.
Last week I tossed 300 flyers to selective homes. I have recieved 3 calls wanting quotes and I closed them all this week. I have not recieved one negative response (knock on wood). One prospect even talked about how creative it was that I had a postcard in a bag. I love it, I just wish the weather in Central Illinois would warm up so I can get to work!

I have not tried the rock throwing, but I have gone door to door and knocking on them. If the home owner answers I introduce myself give them a large post card and tell them to have a great day, if they are not home I just put the card in the door. Now if some one has a no soliciting sign up I don't stop. If some one is rude and says no thanks I just say no problem, here is my card have a great day. I have only sold a few roofs on the day that I went door to door but I always get lots of calls from people who I chatted with and they took my card. usually several wks later. Now this is time consuming and somewhat repetitive but I still love getting to meet all different kinds of people. I just might try the rock throwing thing in a neighborhood and see what kind of reaction I get.
We have 7 booked with deposits from approximately 800 postcards tossed. Waiting on the weather now. The new website is also starting to bring in the calls.
Guys, I have been thinking about ways to get my foot in the door in neighborhoods where my services are really needed. I am considering finding the house in these neighborhoods that gets the most traffic and working out a deal with that homeowner. The deal: I will wash your roof for free if you allow me to keep a sign in your yard to advertise my business and show the results to the rest of the neighborhood, and we'll keep it between us that it was done at no charge to you.
Has anyone tried this? I can't think of a better way to show off what I can do for these homeowners.
