@ Chris - yes, but a lot of guys don't run air pumps. I don't like air pumps, that's why I use 12v.

@ Grizzly - never mind on that. It does not run constantly. It only switches to the internal bypass if it is restricted in any way, such as small nozzles, small hose, etc...

grizz, Ive been using 1/2" hose with 30's and 40's for 2 1/2 years with the fatboy. The only issue has been with the relay, and since I upgraded it at the beginning I havent had a problem.

THIS pump just makes those worries obsolete.

Great info, Scott! I'll be buying one of these soon. Which tip do you use if you are walking a roof? 4030? Do you think a 4020 would be better to control runoff?

I'm using a 5850 pump with 50 tips. It's just too much volume. Gives a lot of runoff. Lori recommended them but I should have gone with something smaller.

Grizzly, I think you have to run larger nozzles on the 5850, too much restriction will pop a fuse if you dont have a bypass......someone correct me if I am wrong. Not too sure on this one

Burned one out restricting flow to long, it didn't blow the fuse and got real hot. I use 5040 tip and spray wide open and have no problem with the 5850 pump. 40 tip works real well and not bad for run off.

Just be aware 1/2 inch hose will not spray as good as 5/8 or 3/4.

Chris is right, it will not spray as well as 5/8 or 3/4. BUT, it will make it easier to control run off and reduce plant damage.

Good feedback for this pump, please keep us posted as you continue to use it.  I purchased the fatboy for my first rig and have been happy with it so far, but i like what I am hearing about the flojet a no brainer for $10 more.....

The key for this pump will be long term durability. So FAR, I've cleaned half an apartment complex using about 200gl - 250gl of love a day, no rinsing, and it just sat for a day and a half. I'm on the roof now getting ready to crank it up so we'll see how she does. My guess? She's gonna pump JUST fine.

Cleaned 5 more buildings and no problems. Ive been using it with a half open ball valve making sure the relay doesnt fry, Ive run it for 30 minutes straight without closing the ball valve etc... No problems to report yet. Also, I still havent rinsed it.

No finders fee neccesary. I just wanna make sure we are using the best pumps at the best cost and with the easiest use of operation.

You know me, I don't usually get too worked up over 12 volt pumps. The Delevan Fat Boy I respect, but the new Flo Jet really makes a statement, IMHO. I mean look at that motor ? I keep coming back to this thread to look at the pics of the Flo Jet compared to the Fat Boy. It almost makes it look like a Toy, by comparason.

I am sure with a motor like that it is capable of greater pressure, for shorter periods of time. The original Fat Boy was rated for 100 PSI, but they re set them for 60 psi.

Scott, why don't you find out how to get some more pressure out of them ?

This will be useful for shooting, but a reduced duty cycle will have to be respected.

It will probably void the warranty as well, but some more PSI would sure be nice at times.

Ok so we finished the apartments using only this pump. We pumped over 2700 gallons of love through it, without rinsing, over a 3 week period. 21 three story buildings, 1 two story club house and 13 one story garages.

I am very impressed so far with this pump. Now that that's over I'm gonna do some distance/flow tests using water and see if the performance was affected by the prolonged use of SH.

Scott, got the new pump installed but the distance results are not so great. Maybe a touch over 25 ft. Didn't you get 50 ft?

I'm using 1" intake, 5"8 output, 3/4" ball valve, and a 0040 tip.

Any suggestions?

One more think, Scott.

What do you think about the hose fittings? Kinda cheesy, eh?

Seems like they will leak quickly with just a single o-ring and a loose fit. I just finished a roof with no leaks but not sure how these pieces will hold up over time.

Bob said he doesn't see them being a problem. What do you think?

Yea I got just around 50' during initial testing. maybe the pressure on yours was set low on accident? Not sure.

I use 3/4" intake, 1/2" hose with 30's and 40's. The 50' was achieved with the 0030 tip.

As for the fittings, mine only came with the QC with the threads which I didnt like, but I just jammed the hose over the threads and over the square part, put on a hose clamp and it all works great.

I dont think the parts will be a problem, and havent been yet, but its a new pump so only time will tell.

For mounting my hose, I used the 1/2" mpt 5/8" barb fitting from my 5850. You'll just have to go to Depot and get a 1/2" fpt coupler. Coupler screws on to the plastic fitting, then, the 1/2" mpt 5/8" hose barb fitting screws into the coupler. Obviously, in your case it will be a 1/2" hose barb fitting. Pretty simple and should be a little safer than just sliding the hose over the threads.

I think I'll try the 0030 and see what happens. My 0040 is pretty sloppy. I may even try some 20's for my fan tips. Currently with 30's tips, I can use the ball valve as low as 1/8" opened without the pump cycling. So, I'm wondering if some 20's tips are in order. Seems to be a pretty solid unit so far. However, I think I may switch to air soon.
