That Sucks!
The new owner cut the tree branches back so I did not even realize what the stain was until seen all the branches cut back and I had a stain that would not go away!

xylene would be very bad for the shingle.
It is a very efficient solvent. We use it everyday in our parent company.

Ideas: Citra-solve, acetone, witch hazel, denatured alcohol, baby oil.

I have used them all in the past with varying degrees of success.
I would try the witch hazel or the alcohol first.
