Here in Michigan things are really bad economically. About one in five people is unemployed, yet there are home improvement companies that make millions of dollars selling way overpriced services. How do they do it? With canvassing.
Canvassers here make $8.50/hr or $80 per lead that demos (whichever is greater). So a canvasser can make around $300 a week by working part time. Crews are typically 10-13 people who pile into a van and drive to a nearby city and just pound out turf for 6 hrs. They go for next day appointments so that a slaesman can pitch a new roof, windows, whatever and try to get the HO to sign.
This technique works, and if I had the money I would assemble an all star crew of canvassers (because I already know the best ones in my town). A full crew can generate quite a few demos, and one or two salesmen could close them for you. All you would have to do would be to show up and clean the roof.
Plus, canvassers distribute fliers as part of their job. They are also plastered with the company's logo so they are like walking advertisements. Maybe next Summer I can put something like this in place?

Sounds like a good plan to me. Also sounds very costly if they don't produce. I guess you'd have to test the waters before going all out. Good idea for a ton of potential. Hope it works out for you.
I used to do this for an office supply company. We worked on Straight commision and the turnover rate was rediculous, but with about 25 of us we did around 9k/day in sales. And thats just office supplies.
We have guys around here doing it for new siding they are telling people that they can turn it into the insurance company and get new siding. They tell them that a hail storm came threw and you have some dents on the siding so they can replace it.

You can often find Canvassers who are working for someone else, and bribe them to also pitch your free roof cleaning demonstrations as well.
Let the other guy pay them by the hour, you pay them commission
You must ADVERTISE for them, try a free ad on Craigslist.
