I just used a product called Gutter Brite. This came in a 32 oz spray bottle which the MSDS says it contains Sodium Hydroxide & Ethoxyethanol. I cleaned white gutters that were black from algea, mildew etc. After spraying it on I wiped off the black dirt. Very heavy black areas I sprayed & wiped off a second or third time.
Has anyone else used this product or a different brand name that contained the same ingredients? I was wondering if some other ingredients that we can mix like Apple Cider Sauce for roof cleaning would clean gutters better?
We did a roof job on Saturday and told the homeowner we would include cleaning the exterior of the gutters, the gutters were very crusty. There were only leaves in a coupe of small areas inside of the gutters, just a simple scoop with the hand and they were gone.
We used a product called Gutter Zap,(bought from Sun Brite) Sprayed product on, scrubbed, re-sprayed scrubbed again and results are in in picuter,(if I can get picture to load.
We used a house wash concentration of the roof mix on the facia at the ends of the house and it worked perfectly!
Just added before and after pics, other photo's chosen were maybe not my bet photgraphic effort.

Thanks for the info on Gutter Zap, purchased from Sun Brite. What quanties do they sell it in? Quarts or Gallons @ what type price levels? Did you have to scrub with a brush or just wipe off with a white cloth? The Gutter Brite I used I didn't have to scrub just wiped off the black stains.

I bought a gallon as part of a 4 gallon sample pack, you can get it in 5 gallon pails I think. Our gutters were pretty crusty, we sprayed it on with a pump-up sprayer, lightly brushed, saw that it wasn't removing all the stains, so I gave it another quick spray brushed a little more and it came clean. you could probably rinse between applications but it takes more time.
I don't remember the exact price without looking, but I'm thinking around $10 a gallon. You mix it 2-1 and it goes pretty far.
I just realized you're the lift guy, you could probably wipe it off, on a one story we use and soft brush on an extendable pole.

This has been an interesting forum. Let me put my two cents in.
Exterior gutter cleaning... I use a spray bottle of "Fantastic" and a green plastic scrubber. This will take all but the most stubborn tiger stripes off. Standing close up you can still see them faintly but standing at the curb the guts look like new.
I hook the spray bottle and the hose nozzle to my tool belt and take everything up the ladder with me. Scrub 3 feet on either side of the ladder, climb down and move it.
It is tedious work and I don't go looking for it but if a customer asks I do it. I quote a price based on my estimate of time (@ $75 per hour) I get more than I don't get.
Hey guys. I'm new to roof cleaning. I'm building my rig right now. I have been cleaning gutters for quite some time. I was wondering if you guys are cleaning the tiger stripes off of the face of gutters and if so, what you are using.
I got to thinking about it and it would be really nice if you could just spray the gutters with apple cider sauce to remove the gutter stains. This would be a nice add on to any roof cleaning job.
Any info would be great!
I use "Streak B Gone" & "Krud Kutter" & "Streak Lightning" & "Purple Power" Occasionally spray on with a pump up garden sprayer and rinse off with a hose works, if not, you are looking at a real job! Spray one of them on, wait a minute and wipe off with a towel-all around the house! It becomes the most labor intesive, time consuming part of a Roof Cleaning & Pressure washing job! Unless a customer requests it, I don't offer it and when I do, it's with an understanding that the price will vary from $75.00 to $150.00 { If it's the $150.00 it's me who is getting ripped! } Chuck Bergman Softwash Roof Cleaning and Pressure washing Services.

$75.00 an hour is not enough for such hard work-to me? Chuck

As for pricing. We charge $2 per foot for gutters we can clean from the ground, $3 per foot for those we have to clean off a ladder and $4 per foot for K-Guard gutters as they are the hardest ones in the world to clean.

We offer gutter cleaning as a package deal with our house washes. We explain that our gutter cleaning is 2 step process, first we soft wash with a light SH house wash blend, then we go over and scrub the gutters using an extension pole and soft brissel brush to remove black tiger stripes and oxidation. Its a really good upsell for every house wash I sell down here in Florida.

The Roof Cleaner uses F13 for cleaning gutters, it works pretty good, and it is a pain on real dirty gutters, we use a pole and brush to clean them. I have a friend that sells gutter protection and he uses this product from Ocean building Products and he said he just sprays it on and rinse, no scrubbing. Going to try it out this year.

Larry - the link for the MSDS on their site is dead, (how about that), BUT they had this in plain text right beside it:
SPECIFICATIONS
Boiling Point: 215° F Solubility in Water: COMPLETE % Volatility by Weight: 90-95 Specific Gravity: 1.06 PH (Conc.): 13.7 PH (Use Dilution): 1% 11.7 Evaporation Rate: WATER 1.0 Physical Form: LIQUID Appearance and Odor: AQUA BLUE LIQUID WITH BUTYL ODOR
It appears to another butyl product bud, they all are. And look at that PH, very alkaline.
On the same topic, I found a product last year that is suppose to prevent tiger stripes from ever occurring. I just don't want to be the guinea pig on a guarantee like that, especially when the wholesale cost is $1/linear foot. It could get ugly in a few years if it doesn't work. I'll try it on my own house one of these days I guess.
