Planning to make my own chemical tank
Permalink

Got a couple plastic barrells from the car wash today. A 15, 30 and 55 gallon. Plan on making a chemical tank out of them. Anyone have any suggestions as to which one might work better for 2400 sq. roofs. 30 gal obviously fits better in the truck with the camper on it. I'd like to know also if the (approx) 3" holes in the top are large enough to vent all the ingredients in the apple sauce mix. Don't need any explosions like you might experience with a back pack sprayer tank.

Mike - I haul my SH (straight) in a 55 gallon drum, and use a 30 for the roof mix.  if I need more than 30 for a job or a subsequent job, I just mix more up.

Although I'm not 100% certain, I think that the bungs (covers) for most drums are vented.

Chances are the SH vapors/gas will wreak havoc on your camper.   Just something to think about and keep an eye on.

Thanks Ted
I was thinking the same thing. Iam considering filling the tank on the job site and not transporting it with chemicals to keep the vapors down. Im sure a trailer is in the makings soon. Just got to get through the month with a couple other obligations.

55 gal - straight bleach (sh)
30 gal - mix tank
15 gal - Injection tank for surfactants.

Here is how I set up my 55 gal. Most of the info was found here on the RCIA. This is an 8" vented lid, it makes it easier for mixing your recipe.

Thanks AC. I plan to keep it simple for now, and will hold on to the 15, 30, & 55 gal drums for back up tanks just in case the winter decides to crack the one I just bought.

Here is where I believe that I purchased the lid. http://www.tank-depot.com/product.aspx?id=1036 . I can't find my original receipt.
