Shake Shingles Question
Permalink

I have a whole sub division that has shake shingles and a realitor that asked about cleaning them.  I understand that working on the roof will entail a different approach vs. asphalt. The question has to do with the solution to use? What works best for cleaning cedar/pine shake shingles and is there a different way to apply? I believe at one time these shingles in question were cedar, they are so stained it is hard to tell.

Would like to know any difference between pine vs. cedar for cleaning.

Thanks

buy a product from Envirspec called restorer, and use your roof cleaning pump to apply it on the shakes, and use a pressure washer 3.5 to 5.0 gallon per min with a 40 degree tip at about 1000 psi and clean with the grain.

Note) those instructions are providing there is no previous sealer on the shake which is unlikely, the restorer only works on dirty wood that doesn't have a sealer on it.
