Who here charges for a second application? How do you explain this to the customer? I have not yet charged for a second application, I charge what it takes to get the roof right. I am pondering the thought of charging for additional applications due to the fact that most of my customers call me due to the complete black roof that use to be brown or worst yet white. I am still fine tuning my maintenance plan and my sales on it as well. I am thinking of giving a discount at the time of the cleaning to induce the customer to the maintenance. But as sure as I am bald, they will not keep the program and I lost out on sure money.
Charge for a second application?? When I quote a HO, the charge is based on his roof getting cleaned so it looks like new. As a professional roof cleaner, I can tell by looking whether the roof will take 1,2, perhaps 3 applications and my quote is based on that fact.
So, I guess in therory you are charging more per coat, I understand that you may not speak of this with them, but I guess the point I was trying to get was, you obviously do not charge double for a second coat. I seem to be loosing on homes needing a second shot.
If you gave me a price to clean my roof, then approached me that it would cost more to actually get it clean, you know what I'd tell ya'? Don't make me say it. It's good business to get the job done on the budget you projected. And der aint nuttin wrong wit a baldy brother. My motto is "Let it shine!"
Well if the roof is a white roof that is really streaked up plan on using 20 gallons more than normal. A frame 2000sq ft rancher should take 35-40 gallons normally then if really bad add 10-20 gallons for the rest of the stains that need another coat.
If you apply the sauce to the whole roof then wait 20 minutes then you can see what has to be done again. Usually its just a few spots here and there.

You cant charge more. Your expertise should know how to clean that roof and delivered at the signing of the contract. Suck it up till ya get some roofs behind ya belt. And know what to charge.
Its called a learning process I get it clean clean clean, I'm prob ally pickier than the home owner. Sell them on a yearly maintenance I go 20% of the original price and go back every year and tell them if they miss a year it goes to the get it really clean price . Send out a 30 day reminder that you are coming and have them call you if they would like any other work done.
You have to know what it takes when you hand the bid. If not, you chalk it up to a learning experience and move on.
Did that today myself. Roof looked pretty easy from the ground. Kicked my ass all day. I lost money on the job, but I learned a lot!.
Well, I didn't really loose money. but my $425.00 for a roof that should have taken the better part of the morning took all DAMN day! Felt like a loss.
Took a full 70 gallons to get clean in 3 not-so-easy applications. Which doesn't sound like a problem, but trust me... When the first two applications smell like Green Apple and the second one smells like chlorine suddenly it becomes a HUGE problem.

I think the " Jersey Boy's " hit it on the head. As far as the roof maint. I have been very succesful signing the majority of my jobs for future " preventive maint ".

Here is a f up of mine today. The roof in Huntingtown. The fish in the pond. I shouldve seen it before and priced it right for the work involved.
