My first post and my first job (will do it on weekend)...
Hi to evereone on this forum ! Great forum ! I'm completely new to industry and been reading for past 20 hours.... I'm based in San Diego, CA and I beleive I'm the only one in South California (at least on this forum). As you all know, nice weather here will allow a year around jobs. I landed first job and will try to do it next weekend. Spoked to Lori and she is sending me a pump and hoses.I have ladders and 2 big plastic trash cans to mix the chems. The house is one story (most of them are in SoCal) about 2000sqf with tile roof that have some mustard alges. Now I need your help , please.... What else I need to do this one? What chems i have to use and how much? I called local pool supply store and they qoute me $30.00 for 50 pounds bag of 12.5 SH. Smaller package of 5 pounds is about $12.00.... How do I mixed it with water (once it mixed does it need to sit for a while to start working)? Do I put something else? After I apply solution on the roof , how long I need to wait before start rinsing? Sorry for the stupid questions but I'm scarred and confused with everything that I read so far. I just want to do it right and get confidence. I really need you help and support.
Let it sit over night is what i've found to work the best. All you have to do is mix it up in the morning. I use a 4 foot paint mixer to stir things up. then add your addtional chems.
you need to use sodium hypochlorite the liquid form. not powder. you need to get a holding tank with a top draw and a good hose reel and hose. lori should be able to set u up with what you need.
So I need to buy 12.5 SH liquid mix instead of powder....Ok.. Do I mix that liquid with water (what's the ratio) and do I need to add something else? Also ,I will add more equipment as I go...Do I need commpressor for this? I will get a kit (pump, hoses, valve) from Lori and after appling the solution on the roof will rinse with regular water hose. I will shot from ladders (gutter heght) and rinse as well. How long need to wait before rinsing and is it better to do section by section?
Being new sucks...but will get there and hopefully I will help one day.... Thnaks
It is not hard to find the answers to all your ?'s use the search button. It’s not that people don’t want to help you. You need to make the effort to learn and find the answers that are here. One clue to get your answers, look for apples and make some sauce.

Hi Igor, you have come to the right place for help and support. Doing your first job on a paying customers house with trash cans and the wrong chems is not a good way to start. You should really practice on your own house or a friends, and maybe not rush into it. There is serious potential for hurting yourself or the customers property until you have a better understanding of what your dealing with. A rushed rig may also be a disaster as fresh sodium hypochlorite basically eats the F*** out of everything. My best advice for you my soon to be roof cleaning brother is to take your time and post some more questions.
Your main ingredient is Fresh 12.5-15% sodium hypochlorite liquid less than 30 days old. It only has about 45 days out of production before it starts to weaken dramatically from free chlorine lost in a gaseous form.
Search for Apple cider sauce or Billy bob. These are both great mixes and one is more stabke than the other.
I am new also and had many of the same questions only find the answers within the posts. Use the search tool with key words, e.g. tanks, pumps, mix etc. The answers are all here.
I am also doing my first roof next week and it is my girl friends rental property. She is excited about it and wants to film the process. Lord knows the roof needs it. LOL

^^^^^^^^^^^^what they say, you might end up making a bomb and you don't even know it, read, read, and read some more....good luck...
Thanks to all members of this wonderfull forum ! All support and help is welcomed. I did'n want to say that I learned everything in past 2 days and I know that it will take a long time to be a pro.I will keep reading I just wanted to intoduce my self and to make sure that I will not make any damage or something stupid. Dealing with chems make me little nervous at this time and I want to do it right from day one.
90% of the answers to your questions you have or will have are in the bbs here, you just have to do some reading and use the search button, nobody likes to bottle feed or spoon feed adults here.
Obviously you did not read enough if you are looking at powders, not even close to the right thing, keep on reading the answers are there.
Why would you book a job without practicing on your own roof, family roofs or friends' roofs, especially if you don't know what to do or how to do it?
You don't want to go there and look like you don't know what you are doing, especially if they come outside and see you looking like you are lost. The worst thing you can say is that you just learned how to do this off the internet, they will probably tell you to get off their property.
I seriously hope you have a helper lined up to help and have insurance so you work carefully and don't burn their lawn/landscaping, it is very easy to do, especially when trying to work by yourself to try to save a few dollars.
Again, you really should read many more days here at least, get a helper, insurance and learn how to do this before experimenting on a customer's roof and possibly causing damage and looking bad. Customers bad talking you can really hurt your business before it gets off the ground.
Good luck.

I practiced on 4 roofs before I did my first paying job. I have killed more foilage (and replaced it) than agent orange did in viet nam. After a year and a half I have finally got my process fine tuned to where I can go in and do a job quickly and with no collateral damage. Take your time and be careful.

Igor, you have about 5 more days of reading and searching to do on here. I may sound like alot but it's not. This site is like a good book you just can't put down.

In regards to fresh SH. Do the 55 gallon drums have a date on it. How do I know the the product being shipped to me is fresh before taking delivery?
Igor, I am also new. I have only done one job, my dads house. Read on and all will be answered.
If you are buying your SH from Univar, the lot # will tell you the date manufactured. Number goes like this CI0810689034. The CI stands for cincinatti Ohio where most of Univar's SH is made. 0810 tells you it was made in August 2010. The rest of the numbers are BS as far as we're concerned.
