I know some folks here have done roofs for free to family members, etc.
But what about churches, or other types of groups along this line?
Around here we have a ton of churches, poor, rich, you name it. One church I was eyeing is about 20 miles away, brown/tan shingles, north side looks bad, south looks new.
Its a small church, and I think they don't have money to spend on a roof cleaning, but figured I would offer to do it for free.
It would not bring me any work, as it is in a poor little town, just the fact that I did it.

The older I get, the more I realize that life is like a Boomerang. Throw good out, good comes back, throw bad stuff out, bad stuff comes back to you. Service to others is the rent we pay for our life here on Earth. God sees what you do, and so may the members of that Church

Wow, great answer Chris, your right about age, it does start to change a persons way of thinking..........
Yesterday I cleaned several roofs in my little poor town's park. I had some older SH since things have been a little slow and I thought that would be a good way to use it up. Maybe I could use the before and afters for an ad later on... Well, as I was wrapping up the last roof, the phone rang and it was good news-got a paying job. This is after quite a period when the phone didn't ring much for business. After I hung up the phone I just thought, I guess Karma may just be real after all.

Donating work to your local community is always a good idea, when done in moderation of course. :) We recently cleaned a small church and parish in our neighborhood. The parishioners all live in houses and some of them own those houses. We do not actively pursue these locations, but we are now in their "good graces" and word of mouth is a boon to any business! Charity work is a great marketing tool, I wouldn't shy away from it. Good Luck!

We clean the local Ronald McDonald houses every time they call for free. We also do our kids Christian school as well as our Church.
Free is good also for any kind of project that will garnish you exposure!

I just did this church roof on my website for free I didn't charge them anthing.
I have a small park in the area that only has a slide, jungle gym and swingset. I am going to contact the city to see if they have it in the budget to upgrade the chains on the swing, add a grill or two and some park benches. If they do not, I will try to go thru the area buisness getting them to donate time and money and make a weekend out of it. I will also contact the newspaper and have them do a story of small local companies helping out the community.
