Hey Matt. Tryin to get your feel on this one. Did you bid this job?
This is in a specific area of Sun City. The HOA requires the residents to keep the roofs clean. The roofs in this area are really bad.
We have been to HOA meetings, sent fliers, even gone door to door. We've done maybe 2 roofs since Jan. This guy does about 2 a week.
We are always told how expensive we are. (I've bid as low as $300)
This is one of the most important parts of this thread here people.
It has to be done, required by their HOA. The roofs in this area are really bad.
You have done 2 roofs since Jan. This guy does about 2 a week.
You are always told how expensive you are.
Look at this as a great opportunity!
With that picture of the guy on the roof with the surface cleaner that is proof of possible damage happening, not killing the fungus (not doing a good job and the fungus will come back soon).
You might try explaining that you are more expensive because you don't use any damaging pressure or equipment on their roofs so they will not have to worry about damage or leaks.
You might try to explain that you are killing the fungus instead of just blasting most of it away and it will stay gone for at least a year or longer where blasting it away....it will be back within 6 months.
Part of the more expensive cleaning job is NO-PRESSURE Cleaning, No Damage to their Tiles from using a Pressure Washer or Surface Cleaner or other type of high-pressure equipment on their roof.
Sure, they can save a few bucks by hiring that guy to use a pressure washer and blast away at their roof, possibly breaking tiles, more than likely getting water up under the tiles causing a leak the next time it rains, They are probably proud of their decision to hire him thinking that they are getting the same job as everyone else down the street but without them knowing of the differences, possible damage, fungus not being killed and returning soon they might be willing to pay more money if this was explained to them.
I would show that picture to the next customers and explain the differences but not in a way that you are bashing the guy, just showing how much safer you work, how you guarantee the job, how you don't use any pressure to clean, how you will not damage tiles or possibly cause leaks later on, etc.....
I see this as a good opportunity if you make a lot of copies of that picture to show potential customers but also have some taken of you holding the wand spraying the chemicals with your hand in front to show them that there is no pressure involved in the cleaning.
Turn this situation around and the upside looks great!
Good Luck!
