Lichen and Moss Removal: Time Progression. Moss usually falls off after a few weeks or it can be sprayed off with a hose when it's dead. Lichen is sometimes the same, but certain strains are like glue. Lichen is the MOST destructive organism for your shingles. This infestation was never sprayed off or raked off; it was a test to see whether God will remove it over time after treatment. The answer is YES!

Great pics and yes in time it does remove itself. I got one I sprayed, had moss lifting the shingles and lichens. Didnt rinse or brush and check it out every now and then. Heres the before and after, the after is a couple of weeks ago and about 3 weeks after the spray. Looked at it today and the shingles have flattened even more.

great pics doug. one of my worries was that a roof with a really bad lichen would'nt come out to liking without rinsing especially here in cali where tile roofs are usally infested with. but now that i see your pics i don't think that would be the case.

i guess its the thought of telling the customer that the rain will naturally rinse it off and not knowing if its gonna come out how you expect it to. now i feel more comfortable passing that information to a future client. thanks for your time.

I did one about a month ago. lots of moss he said just treat it and leave it. I did, we have had one good storm and lots of rain but there is still a ton of dead moss on the roof. I want to spray it off but its a good test to see how long it will take to get clean.
It can take three months for a very heavy lichen infestation, even longer in a drought. The moss usually goes a lot faster, lichen attaches much stronger to the roof.
Here in the Northeast we have some really bionic tough lichen. It seems to grow harrdier under tree cover.Should i maybe make the mix a little stronger or will the normal due?
What Ive been seeing. It starts with the goleo capsa magma, the the moss and lichens come later if not treated. I used to rinse all roofs. The lichens are tough. With not rinsing I only have GCM and moss experience. For right now. I'm gonna try not rinsing with the lichens too, next opportunity. So fa so good with not rinsing!

Hey Bob! Looks like you sprayed the chit out of it and some moss is still green? I havent done alot of "spray only" with moss and lichens. One that I did about a month ago. The shingles have just about layed all the way down now.

Thanks Lori. When this becomes a professional place again I'll be back. Until then I'll be off modifying old roof patents on my own.
This no longer feels like an institution of learning. I told Chris several weeks ago what was happening to this place and now he's invited his good buddy here who....well....as Forest Gump said....sometimes there just aren't enough rocks.

I deal with lot of moss and heavy lichen infestations, I have one test roof I did sprayed the oct 2011 and it still has a 1/2 dozen pure white lichen hanging on. Everything else is 99% clean, thankfully the home owner was happy and understanding. Wish we had an easier solution to heavy moss & lichens, something 100% effective and instant.
