John,

If I might be so bold to ask, will you please turn off the all caps? Thanks.

Yes there is money to be made. Like every job it takes some time and effort on the sales and education side of the business and this can take from days to years to make a big enough impact to be "profitable". (read: self supporting)

However, as one of those on here who run a companion business and is branching out into professional roof cleaning, I can honestly say that our small investment to set-up our PW rig for softwashing paid for itself in just a few weeks.

We do this part time, by request only, we don't solicite much, and only do 1 story tile roofs in one city and we can make $1500 a week. We average about $1,000.

Now that's not much money for someone looking to be self supportive; but for what we do an extra grand a week out of equipment we must own for our other business, that usually sits 2-3 days a week in a storage room, is grand!

I agree with everything John said.  Well stated.  Once you are established you will make a lot more than working for someone else.  But you have to be careful and not do anything foolish.

THeres money to be maid but, You have to ask your self "do I really want to do this"?
Long nights, long days , chems and alot of learning. Not to mention waiting days to get paid and hunting down customers for their bouncing checks. I love it but I hate waiting on my$$$.
Good luck and dont forget "You can make as much $ as you are willing to work for"

I went back into construction, into exterior cleaning on the probable supposition that America will be completely bankrupt by 2040. Check my website.

You may not get rich, but you can do all you can. People in my area may not understand right now, but SOON, very SOON the masses will come to realize that MAINTENANCE is the ONLY construction based activity for which their is a positive reward. The returns on basic MAINTENANCE vastly exceed that seen on any stock market, HISTORICAL OR CURRENT. Regression analysis does NOT lie.

That said, I study every basic construction discipline....

I am a home inspector and have done well over the years. Although business is still steady on my end, I am fully aware that the peak market is over and both the economy and the future are questionable, I am looking for a back up plan "just in case". I have seen a substantial drop in higher end homes selling. Now that more people are hanging onto their money and fixing their homes rather than buying, I really believe that there is a positive future for professions such as this (anything dealing with home maintenance). It may take time to establish yourself, but do a good job and be persistent. Things can definitely pay off!

Just talking $$$ here....I'm not planning on getting rich doing this. As a former RE developer, I've chased the $$$ for a decade, have made a bunch, and have lost even more.

Washing, I can be in control of my life and finances. I know that if I have to resort to a bottom feeder and go bottom dollar on prices, I can still clear 40K/year and feed my family. RIght now, I'm on track to double that figure in my first year in biz,and actually work less than I have for the past 10 years.

With growth come headaches. I have friends who run multiple crews each day, and their job is to run around and quality control what the employees have screwed up on the day's jobs. Not my style, I just want to pressure wash, soft wash, and roof clean 1-2 houses per day in the Tallahassee area and support my family!

If someone really wanted to hustle, more could be made.  Everyone's expenses will differ greatly, but look at the math: my paradigm is 400/day for 4 days per week for 50 weeks per year.  Thats a minimum....I know many days I'm able to gross  more than that, and many weeks I work more than 4 days!

There is money to be made in Roof Washing, just be willing to put the time in for start up.

I would love to hear the top annual revenue some of the big companies have done? Only problem is we don't want too many ppl hearing that...

It was great to meet and hear Darryl Mirza speak at Thad's New Orleans Round Table last year. Darryl owned Facilitec, a HUGE national kitchen exhaust cleaning company that he built from the ground up.

Facilitec was doing 49 million at it's peak. I forget how Darryl worded it, but what I got out of it was "Yeah, 49 million sounds great, but if you're expenses is $49,750,000 it's a lot of work for very little pay".

That was some great advice. Don't try to have a huge business - just try to maximize profits with as little stress as possible.

Since then Darryl split Facilitec among his District Managers - pairing down the company and giving him a big stress relief. I hope I got all those facts right, I'm going off of memory, and it WAS New Orleans.

Yes, I agree with you 100%!

During the busy season we can easily pull down $1500-2000 a week in 30 hours or less and we work in one of the stingiest areas I've ever seen. 40k is VERY doable.
