Went down to get his truck from the job the accident happened at. The gutter was probably only 10 ft from the ground. I was expecting a big house, but it was just a little ranch. Point being, BIG damage can happen from a little fall!

Truly sorry to hear about anyone getting hurt,..I don't care if it's in the roof cleaning business or not. I hope the guys here who are here laughing at safety,... and getting their kicks out of posting their bravery pictures, get something out of this and the David Vicars thread. But they won't,...they're simply bigger than that,...and all the safety crap.

So true Jeff, saftey is a set of habits and it is hard for many to break the bad ones. I had to tell my current roof cleaning mechanic over and over not to climb on certain roofs and to check the footing on the ladder. He is much better at it now, but the bad habits were hard to break. If you have guys out there working for you, put comp on them so we don't have to start a fund. Workmans comp is the most valuble insurance anyone can have. If you get hurt how will you make money??

You can say that again, my dad was almost killed from falling of scaffolding that wasnt higher than any gutter of a normal rancher. He ruptured his spleen and was in serious trouble for weeks. It took him almost 2 years to recover. They had to split open his chest cavity to see what was all damaged. I was on a staircase that collapsed and landed on my feet and still messed my knee all up. You never know so its always best to practice the safest roof cleaning procedures we can.

most accidents happen only a few feet off the ground because we tend to be over confident, we basically think we can't get hurt falling a few feet, but surely you notice how much more careful you are the higher you go.
accidents are going to happen, because we take chances. if we were to try to work 100% safe we would take forever getting anything done, probably atleast 4 times longer?
