Hey guys do any of you use a harness and tie to the edge of the roof while working from the top of the ladder on a high job? Seems it can get tricky up there when spraying with both hands?

It sounds like you are not using stand offs on your ladders. Ladder will be more stable and you won't even think about it. What would you attach to anyway with a gutter and vinyl soffits?

Most gutters have tight-back bracket or gutter spikes. You can  tie you ladder to them as long as they are secure.  Sometime you have no choice but to tie your ladder to the gutter. Like if the house has a 2' or 3' Soffit, Stand outs will not work. Always take you time and work at a safe speed.

Ladder stand offs and if you feel better bungee cord the ladder to the spike or hidden hanger.

I have never seen a roof where you cannot use a standoff??  A picture here would be helpful.

If you don't like the standard ladder stabalizers try this one: http://stores.homestead.com/LadderMaxLLC/StoreFront.bok

This one goes above the gutters.

We have several types but I like this style the best.

This is the one that I use and my stand off always goes above the gutter so wide eaves is not a problem. I don't put the ladder against the wall.

I am so accustomed to resting my ladder with a standoff on the roof,..that I never even realized he was resting his on the siding,..UNDER the soffit. Man,...don't do that,...as stated above,...rest it on the roof.
