Simply stating the truth.  Please stop making this a PERSONAL issue.  Although we are passionate about our pumps, please stop with the DRAMA.  This is an educational issue.

To be clear.....We are trying to save you money.  Look at our prices.  When was the last time you received something free?  Most of our packages are sent out with at least something free.  We LOVE RCIA.  I love talking to you on the phone and seriously look forward to meeting some of you at the Florida event.

Did you know that many, many companies around the US sell Delavan Ag pumps? Check it out.  Google shop the pumps.  I urge you to get out there and look around.  Look at pricing.  Who else offers 24 hour technical assistance for FREE.  Call us on Christmas or in the middle of the night.  We answer the phone.

Who offers a warranty? Does the warranty cover shipping to and from? Is labor covered? Upon evaluation if the pump is considered to be covered under warranty NOT offered by Delavan, who pays for shiping? Are parts covered?  If the pump is considered out of warranty, what happens to the pump? Is it rebuilt and sold? Is the pump evaluated by Delavan Ag?  Is the pump added to a collection and turned in for scrap money?  Is the pump properly buried?  LOL!!!

I question the warranty. Please see Delavan Ag's Warranty.

Standard Warranty
Delavan warrants PowerFLO Series Pumps for a period of one
year from date of manufacture.
All products sold by Delavan are warranted only to purchasers
from Delavan for resale or for use in purchasers’ own
business or original equipment manufacture, against defects
in workmanship or materials under normal use, maintenance
and service (rental use excluded).
The sole and exclusive obligation of Delavan under this or any
implied warranty shall be to replace or, at its option, to repair,
without charge, any product which is determined by Delavan
to be defective in workmanship or materials after the product
is returned to the Delavan factory*, shipping costs prepaid.
In no event shall Delavan be liable to any person for indirect
or consequential damages or for injury or commercial loss
resulting from any use or inability to use any Delavan product.
Delavan expressly negates any other warranty, express or
implied, including any warranty of merchantability or fitness
for a particular purpose, or arising from any course of dealing
or custom or usage of trade.
No person, including any dealer or representative of Delavan,
is authorized to make any representation or warranty on behalf
of Delavan in addition to or inconsistent with these provisions.
Purchasers to whom these provisions apply agree to hold
Delavan harmless from claims by their customers in excess
of the obligations of Delavan expressly set forth herein.  (Delavanagpumps.com)

Let's keep the drama to the soap opera's.

Don't be so paranoid Scott,..I didn't "single" you out,...you're the only one in the discussion raging about 1/2" hose. Just because your pump works ok with smaller hose doesn't mean these people are lying. By the way,...we all have are own brain and can make our own determinations about who to buy from and for what ever reasons.

No one makes anyone do anything,...or even read anything on this board. This board doesn't owe you or anyone anything,...If you perceive they are lying,...why do you even care,....just move to another board.

Are you really that worried about others' understanding of information or succeeding in this business(Rhetorical).

Lori, nobody is questioning that from a customer service point of view that your are very good. And im not disputing that your prices are lower than the "other' supplier on some things. neither am I suggesting that people not use you.

You just simply do not know what you are talking about when it comes to these pumps, and you have to stop making claims that are not true. when you reference specific things that 1 supplier does, that makes it a personal issue, not a pump issue.

Question the warranty all you like, but I know the 2 times I had an issue with the 5850 2 years ago everything was paid, shipping, labor, and the replacement pump. Who paid for it all, I dont know but I know it wasn't me.

If you want this to be an educational issue, please post correct information.

p.s. It was a pleasure talking to you too, and I can't wait to meet you either. But until false statement stop, I will speak out in the name of true education.

 Jeff,

I have tried not coming here and just staying away, then when I come back I see people saying "Wow, thanks for the great info!!" Then I look at the info and its bogus. I can't keep quiet about that. And to be perfectly honest, yes, when new guys do get into this business they are VERY influenced by what they read, many follow the word here like they follow the bible (just like I did until I got actual experience). I just want to make sure that the info they read is accurate.

And you're right, I am the only one raging about it. Other people, who I have spoken to on the phone, are scared to post about it because they know they will be attacked for it.

Also, it is a different story if a contractor says something that isnt true, but a totally diiferent issue when a supplier does it.

Without testing Scott,....you haven't any real information to determine anything. You're here making accusations using your own feedback from your own experiences. It is fine to mention it,...but to insinuate the information these people are giving is bogus,...simply because you don't agree,...is really un-called for.

But either way,...you seem to like the arguing,...because as you said,...you try to stay away,...but you have to come back and make sure all the little start-ups are being well taught.

By the way,..I've mentioned using steel roller pumps with 3/8" hose, and was never attacked...so the people you speak of just don't know how to handle themselves. Or maybe they're just happy with what they use and aren't worried about what others think,....that's what you need to think about doing.

To be very honest Jeff, yes I do like the little arguments. Not because they cause drama but because they create thought. They make people stop and maybe think about something a little differently.

Of course I know that not everything is bogus. 99% of what is taught here is good solid info. That 1% will be corrected.

As for your first sentence, What more of a test can you have than 1000 roofs? A Bumble Bee cant fly according to physics, its body is too big and its wings to small. But sure as im typing this they do fly! Testing in a driveway for an afternoon does not prove anything. Real experience does. And in my and dozens of other peoples experience, including you, 1/2" hose will not burn these pumps up. And to say so, only leads me to believe it is to sell bigger hose. If not that, then it is out of pure ignorance (in the purest sense of the word)

I am very happy with what I use, and am not really concerned with opinions. I wont attack an opinion. Its when something is stated as fact that I have an issue.

A steel roller pump with 3/8" hose will work just fine im sure. You may have corrosion issues, idk, but on the right motor probably pumps like a champ huh?

My input on 12V means nothing,...I use 1/2",...but with an air pump. One pump and one setup doesn't constitute testing. But either way,...I'm done with this topic.

Youre right and if it was just me, you would have a valid point. But theres dozens or hundreds of guys using it with no problems. What really doesnt constitute testing is a supplier asking 2 roof cleaners their experience (one who doesnt even use them) and selling it as fact.

However Jeff, I do appreciate your input as you're really the only one willing to discuss issues without towing a particular line. You're always very "Down the middle".

I have used 1/2 in in the past and I use 1/2in now. 99.9% of all the problems is with the tip size and not so much with the hose size. JMHO... And this is coming from a guy who used to use 200ft of 3/8 hose for YEARS. But I used the right size tip!!!! Yes I did....I really did...

Since I also use the delvans I will add my two cents. I use 3/4 hose from the tank to the pump and 3/4 hose feed out of the pump. But I do use a 1/2 inch hose to apply with a wand, and I will tell you why. I use 1/2 hose called "tundra" it's light as a feather compared to the 3/4,easy to handle and it won't stiffen up at all in cold weather{ which come in handy here in November }If they made the tundra in 3/4 I would use it because I have done my own test and all my pumps air and 12v shoot further with 3/4 line.I use the 1/2 because I can work easier esp. up high.I have lost a 5880 pump last year after about 100 roofs, maybe if I used 3/4 hose I would have gotten more life from it. Again 12v fatboy or 5880 I use 1/2 to apply. Now all that being said I will mention the other supplier...I know one as " Bob " great guy and very helpful. Also Lori and her family great people and very helpful, and she is right call anytime and get help.We are all in business to sell someone somthing,I dont think Lori or Mike Sullivan are lying and trying to sell hoses,I think they believe it and are trying to help. I understand your side of the " discussion " but all those mentioned deserve a little more respect then your post is giving them. Mike Sullivan answer any PM questions and Rex always has " another Idea ". Just " tone down " your post they come across very angry, and it's not nessacary.

You are right, I do get a little worked up. No disrespect was meant towards anybody.

However, I think that you misunderstand the meaning of this discussion. It is not about how well the hoses flow. Nobody disputes that bigger hoses flow better. That is just a matter of preference. What is in question is if smaller hoses can kill a pump.

Thanks for your post. very clearheaded which is whats needed most of the time.

I personally thought the post was very informative and I don't believe it had anything to do with convincing us to buy a product.
The information gave each of us something to consider. I personally don't have the funds or the time to test things and I enjoy reading others input and ideas regaurdless of who they are.
I can choose to try these things for myself or I can continue to believe I don't need anybody's advice. The advice and on the job experience from each of you has taught me much.
Thank You Lori, Rex and Mike.

I liked this thread, I really did, It shows PASSION and conviction on the part of our roof cleaners. It shows our Forum is ALIVE roof cleaning
It presents both views of the Hose Debate, and people will choose what is right for them. Being an ex gearhead street racer myself, it is kind of like talking about headers and a big camshaft for a street car. Headers make power, and improve fuel economy, but they are loud cry
A big Cam kills low end torque, power brakes dont work well because of vacuum loss, and they dont idle good, but they make tons of horsepower.
Some can live with these compromises, others can not, same with Hose Size.
Oh, just for everyones information, we had 436 visits to the forum yesterday, just about the highest EVER.  Heated Debates like these attract spectators, because the roof guys are "going at it again" biggrin
I don't believe this makes us look "bad" in the eyes of potential customers, it makes us look real, IMHO
My mechanic is passionate in his belief about preventive maintenance and Mobil One Synthetic Oil. My Lawn Guy uses only organic fertilizer. I like passion in people I select to do work for me, and I think customers do too. So I will leave this thread in the open part of the forum.

I agree, good discussions are important even when they get a little heated. This site is constantly full of new post, and letting things " fly " Chris is what keeps it that way.

Still new to the business. Before getting into this forum I had the wrong equipment , chemical , and advice from the other experts outside of this forum. Reading through the posts I continually was advised to contact Lori . After speaking to her I gained a lot of respect from her and her father about equipment , chemicals , and other parts of this business. I see through out the forum many contractors feel the same way. I'm sure that " P W P "s opinion has been formed from the pump mfrs, results from failures, and much feed back from contractors who have experienced problems and success with the equipment. The newbies to this industry do not have as much experience with all this new stuff and are more prone to equipment failure. I appreciate all of the help from " P W P' . It doesn't seem like they want to knock other Co.s , just want to the information that they have gained to help the forum.
I'm sure that roof cleaning vetern's equipment works great through their experence, and  their hose sizes, pumps and nozzles work just fine for them.

 Thanks again Lori and P W P

Scott, you know that I have nothing against you nor Celeste as I consider us friends.  I have sold Celeste equipment below what I paid for because I no longer used that technique.  I have even shown & explained to Celeste my trailer setup and some power washing secrets.  I hope you still consider me a friend after this post as there is no malice involved.  I just want the facts in the open.

For 3 years I have been researching what to buy and what not to.  In that time I have copied many posts and filed them away for future reference.  Please explain what you found to be causing the problem in the following 3 posts that you made.  I have been looking for the most trouble free pump that you do not have to modify to get it to work correctly and what you have said has always bugged me.

What was blowing your fuses & why do you have to use a relay switch for the starter of a car to replace the one on the fatboy?

I have always assumed that you had to modify your delavans because you were using 1/2" hose or too small of tips.

Date: Nov 23, 2008     Confident Roof Cleaning       Scott Davis

The Fatboy is going to murder your other Delavan and Shurflo. The thing pumps like a champ. If I had to compare it, I would say it pumps about 90% what the Bandit does, and for a little 12v thats awesome.

The problem I had was it keeps blowing fuses, and the relay switch kept melting on the inside from getting to hot, and when that goes bad, the on demand function doesnt work and it explodes hoses. Get a couple of extra relay switches, and solder the grounding wire on, where it is on the one that comes with the pump.

Once you get it and get it all set up, please let me know what you use to hook it up. Wire gauge, fuse size, how far it is from the battery etc...Because I can't figure out why I blow the fuses.

We use 1/2" hose and Ball valve and the only issue we have had is the relay which we found a fix for.

Date: Jun 3, 2009       Confident Roof Cleaning       Scott Davis

Just a quick tip before you spend that kind of cash. Buy a relay switch for the starter of a car and replace the one on the fatboy. Thats what went out.

Marcus, to take offense to you posting my own words would be rediculous. Since day 1 I have always been clear on the relay problem. The only reason we were blowing fuses and relays at the beginning was because of the cheap relay installed at the manufacturer. It only happened when we opened our ball valve less than all the way open. Once the relay is switched out with a better one, you can open the ball valve as much or little as you want without an issue.

Like Larry said before, I do believe that the tip size has more to do with any issues than the size of the hose. But as long as you adjust the pressure screw it doesnt really matter what size tips you use either, it will just affect the flow. I use 40's, some guys use bigger.

I hope that answered your question..

Marcus, to take offense to you posting my own words would be rediculous. Since day 1 I have always been clear on the relay problem. The only reason we were blowing fuses and relays at the beginning was because of the cheap relay installed at the manufacturer. Thanks Scott!  Three years ago you did complain about the relays.  I wonder why Delavan has not corrected the problem in 3 years.  Don't they have ears?  Delavan make something we roofers can use out of the box, without modifications, that holds up.  Roof Cleaners will be more apt to buy your pump.  Scott that was the informative answer that I was wanting to hear.  I would welcome other members comments.
