I really dont see how theres that much more money to be made by pinching pennies on anything that goes into any of suggested variations of mixes on here. I mean over all,all of these products are fairly resonabile and in my experiance(30 years painting and power washing) good working equipment and top quality materials just make your job easier help you make more money faster, leave a good impression on your customers and bring more jobs in the long run.I mean really if you see a diffrence you see a diffrence. Im sure some mixes work better than others in diffrent regions.I spent a lot of time in florida over the years, and alage and mold and mildew arent exactly the same as what we see here in the northeast. .........Bob
As stated before: to each his own. I will continue to use IPA on every roof I clean. I can tell a significant difference in the cleaning speed, and the quality. As Scott mentioned, it may be a climatic issue, not a recipe issue. One thing I will never do, regardless of what's in the mix, is cut corners or do inferior work. We take this industry very seriously, and our work backs that statement up. BTW Scott, did you try that surfactant yet?

Good Post Kevin, no one is pointing a gun at anyone, forcing them to use what they don't want. Seriously, I am really into building stereo speakers. So much so that I almost punched a friend out who told me he could hear no difference between my speakers that cost me a couple of grand to build, and some cheap Sony Speakers he bought at Best Buy for 99.00 a pair! I finally realized he just don't hear like I do, and the last little bit of accurate sound reproduction is not as important to him, as it is to me Speaking of the alcohol, I found another US cleaning Patent using a Tertiary Butyl Alcohol and a surfactant that IS chlorine compatable !!!
Also becareful openly posting you use ARMA approved chemicals and then say you use IPA. That would seem to be an open lie if you did.
Using an ARMA approved solution will do NOTHING but get you a good suntan. If straight bleach will not clean a roof, how will diluted bleach do it, even with TSP ? Answer is - It Won't ! LOL - seriously, I had a shopper one time, a particulary nasty one too! He asked if I used "approved chemicals" I said yes, OUR chemicals are approved by Mike Sullivan Heck, if Roof Reviver can say they are reccommended by Gary Sullivan, and they do, hell, we got our OWN Sullivan at RCIA !

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Lets remember there are 2 primary sources of discoloration on a roof ? One being Algae, and one being dirt, including atmospheric pollutants. The Chlorine will remove the algae, but chlorine will not remove dirt and stains. If it did, we would simply wash clothes with bleach, and save money on detergent. I could say "I have washed 2 loads of laundry a week, and see no difference adding Tide, so save your money, just use bleach" That don't mean grocery stores will pull all laundry detergent off the shelves. Cleaning is subjective, I CAN see the difference the additional cleaners make, perhaps you can't ? One of my hobbies is designing and building super exotic stereo speakers, and I can hear obvious to me differences in several pairs I designed and built. Many of my fridends have said "Chris, ALL your speakers sound terrific to me, I don't really have a favorite one" when I ask them their favorite pair. If YOU don't see a difference, don't use Ammonyx LO, or TSP, or IPA. Chit, don't even use ANY Soap al all, save your money. But I think most of us do see a difference, at least I do. Even if, God forbid, you do NOT see any difference, you may want to use Ammonyx LO anyway I was told by Yamada it is not a bad idea, since it is slippery, and acts as a sort of lubricant in the pump! Just as I gave up on my friends who can't hear the differences in my speakers, I am not here to force feed my ideas on what to use to clean a roof, what size hose to use, or what pump. I can tell you what MY experiences are, and what I use. IOW, I can lead a horse to water, but I can't make it drink, nor do I really care anymore. Actually, I am more concerned with you not damaging plants then WHAT you use to clean a roof, as long as it don't inviolve any pressure. So, come out of the closets with your 1.8 gpm shurflo's, proudly display your puny 3/8 hose, and brag on how you only use "chlorine and water", but be CAREFUL ?? Especially on the RCIA Forum ? You can BET your azz your local competitors ARE reading this highly ranked roof cleaning forum, perhaps your potential customers too Some dirty local competitor may say "Look here Mr Customer, ALL he is giving you is Chlorine and Water, and a 125 dollar pump, it says so right here, in his own words where he got certified at, let me email it to you" 'By golly Mr Customer, one of dem there Delevans only costs 125 dollars, lookie here at the online Pressure Wreck Catalog!" Now golly gee, my air compressor alone costs almost 1000.00 dollars, and my pumps over 600.00 each" 'Oh, Mr Customer, look at him on here, telling everyone to save their money, he's a tight azz, what OTHER corners will he cut on your job to save himself some money" "No sir Mr Customer, we GIVE you your moneys worth, heck YOU can go to the pool supply store, and dump you some chlorine /water on yer own roof, why hire HIM" ? Ok guys, enough, I am TRYING to be funny here, but can you see where this is going ? Local Competitors can be dirty, and will cut your throat in a minute, IF you give them the razor blade to do so. Remember, this IS a cut throat business in many areas ? WE choose to own, operate, and talk about only the BEST roof cleaning equipment and additional cleaning agents money can buy. We practice what we preach. Just something to think about, maybe ?
Chris: The last 3 paragraphs in your post seem to have little or no relavance to what you started off saying. I perceive it to be a slight against Scott. Why? I believe that as an industry we should ALL choose our words carefully and disagree; sure but as colleagues not children.
Scott: your comment or reply was also of ill repute. You have always taken the high road in the past, what happened?

I think I was misunderstood. It is ok to say you use ARMA approved chemicals, as long as you dont claim to use the ARMA approved mixtures. It is also not ok to say you use only ARMA approved chemicals and add IPA. That was my only point. Im not saying anyone here is, im just saying be careful how you word things.

I think this is one thing we can ALL AGREE on. Which surfactant? The A-LO?

In support of IPA, I need to add this. Many of you don't remember the Tamko Reclaim Roof Cleaning System. It was developed by roofing manufacturer Tamko out of Joplin, Missouri for their roofing contractors. It used Alcohol !!! What kind or combination of Alcohol is unknown, but I remember it.

I hear ya buddy, I'm still using alcohol. I can tell a difference.
Still use TSP too, and know for a fact that it not only makes a difference in the cleaning power, and speed, just as the alcohol does but TSP also helps keep the roof cleaner longer.
Every possible advantage you can have over your competitors the better.
Any competitors who cuts corners like you said Chris will not be able to compete with someone who uses extra ingredients in their mix, because adding TSP will outlast a roof cleaned without.
I like the Ammonyx Lo, but on steep roofs I like to add Dawn or something thicker.
Lately I've been using Sam's club Members Mark dish soap..LOL!
The big 90oz bottle of regular dawn is now replaced with anti-bacterial dawn..arrgh!
Sometimes I get 12/12 pitch roofs here in NC and I need to really thicken the mix up.
Looking forward to using the Ammonyx M (Apple Butter). No luck yet on when it will be available.
We ran our 1st roof test useing 35 gal-SH, 65gal- H2O = 100GAL 1oz.ammonixX per 2-GAL mix, 3-oz ISP per 2-gal mix, this is our basic usual batch.. Then same mix ratio above but left out ISP... Results were with no ISP.... cleaning was longer and a few deep stain areas needed xtra spraying more than our batch with ISP... pic your poison...
