Okay I am going to get some real contracts made up soon but I have a small stack of generic ones for now. I am not sure how to word the what I am doing part. I am thinking of something like this.... we hereby submit specifications and estimates for a non-pressure roof cleaning to the main home at 2222 love ln longbeach, wa. We will use a chemical mixture to treat the entire roof.( RCIA approved) clean up and remove all job related debris. Hmm or I could just say we will clean your roof. well if anyone has any ideas I would be thankful. so thanks guys.
I don't use contracts unless it's a proposal to a HOA. I'm very fortunate that I'm in a region where your word seems to be all the customer needs. Watch your wording in any contract,...you'll end up having a possible backfire.
Not sure if you're rinsing or not,...but if you're not be sure and explain the fact about you're only treating the roof and the rainfall will do the final rinsing to a finished product.
Treatment of the roof is the only part you're responsible for,....waiting for the rain doesn't mean waiting for your money. Get paid upon completion of the treatment,...not after the rainfall.
Sometimes we "overthink" and "outfox" ourselves when it comes to the technical issues. Have some contracts available if they are the standard/requirement in your area, but I think the more the customer has to think about the transaction they less likely they are to have it done.
Preparing to sign a contract leads to them possibly researching the issue, which leads them to learning about some of the shysters, bad methods, and controversies surrounding roof cleaning. Then next thing you know, they make a BAD decision and higher someone with a surface cleaner to wash their shingles, or go to HD and try our an inferior product themselves.

We have a written guarantee, but no written contract for residential customers. We only have a written contract for repeat work. Wait until you can afford to have a law office write these up for you. It's not expensive and it's really the best way to go.
For most jobs I just go by handshake or verbal agreement.
If it is a company I am working for and have to submit a proposal then I will have them sign the proposal and fax it back or send me a verbal ok or go ahead or something like that so I have something signed and in writing so I can start the job and that is my record that I was given the ok to start if something happens later on. I have not had any problems with that yet.
So many people are leery about signing contracts, sometimes bring up the word contract you can see them make weird faces so I don't use them much.
