It dosn't matter what you want the name to be, it only matters that your customers think. The point about branding like Mallard and Chemdry is valid but probably way out of the league for most of us. Branding an image and promoting it to become a household name takes hundreds of thousands of dollars. Both those companies have spent millions promoting themselves. So for a startup without hundreds of thousands to invest I would stick with whatever your customers would recognize. Changing your name for branding or adding a surname or system name will easily solve the problem in the future if you make it big. Steve jobs is a good example, no one calls their i-phone an apple, each product thye sell is individually promoted under it's own name.
Hundreds of thousands to promote a brand? No sir. Creating a brand doesn't mean it has to be in mass scale. It's quite easy to create a brand name "locally" in the area you service. It just takes a little time, a good memorable image, and quality work and service. Putting your geographical area that you "currently" service in your name and logo will only limit the future potental of expanding your operation. When I market my website on the Internet I promote the name of company while still using my target key words Roof Cleaning Jacksonville Florida

Okay I have a buisness card made up now this is a draft and was wondering what you guys think, I no the Bulldog thing. I cant explain it but I like it. If I get a ton of bad reviews then I might change it. any thought would be helpful. thanks guys
Do you guys have experience with any benefit from being near the top in the yellow pages?
Like "Apple...", I thought I'd go with "Amazon..." partly for the "A", but also for it's association with greenery, water, power, etc. It is also a main street through town. Several other unrelated businesses out there have helped to make it a memorable name.
Amazon ? Amazon roof cleaning, I was given lots of advice on hear, went with my own thing and it has worked out okay but I am thinking of going with Coastal roof cleaning and getting rid of the Bulldogs, I am finding most of my costomers are calling and asking for Coastal roof cleaning instead of saying is this Bulldogs Coastal roof cleaning. just going to ride the summer out and use up my cards, flyers etc and take some of my hard earned cash and reinvest this winter getting ready for spring.

LOL, no one uses Yellow Pages anymore, do they ? Amazon implies Jungle, with mildew
That makes sense. I like both. "Coastal Roof Cleaning" does of have a bit more of a polished, easy sound to it.
Yeah, Amazon Roof Cleaning is what I've pretty much decided on, but it's not committed to ink yet. Could go with Eugene Roof Cleaning too. That would definitely work. "Amazon Roof Cleaning" would be #1 in the phone book. Lane Roof Cleaning - for Lane County - is an option, though "Lane" sounds uncomfortably close to "Lame" lol.
that was lame> get it lame, anyways I put coastal roof cleaning in mine so I can work Oregon and Washington coast if I expand in the future. Just working out of Washington so far but Oregon coast is in the plans for next summer not to far down the coast maybe to cannon beach. I like Amazon roof cleaning its catchy.

Eugene Roof Cleaning is great, your name shall say what you do, and where you do it.
well you should go with Eugene roof cleaning, Apple roof cleaning told me not to use Bulldogs and I think he was right, not that I was wrong but probably dropping Bulldogs for future use.
Hiya all, I am all together new to this and found this to be quite informative. I am in a not so densely populated yet thoroughly infected area. I was toying with the idea of using the largest nearby in my name but thought that might potentially steer a customer away if I was not close to them?
Perhaps I am old school but I too thought that using the "A" was a good idea as far as search engine results go. Anyhow for whatever reason "Atticus" just seemed like the right thing to do and I really like the connotation to the character from the book, sends a positive subliminal message :) Now , I will post back to this thread when I can tell you how it worked !

The letter A don't mean chit to Google, or any other search engine. Your name should say what you do, and where you do it, please do not make more profiles, I can change it once you have been here for awhile
When I chose Arkansas Pro Wash I didnt know jack about what I was doing. I guess Im just lucky that I didnt choose "Chris' High pressure cleans everything washin Co" Ark Pro Wash covers everything we do since were not just a pressure washing company.
One thing that i have given thought......... If I was starting from scratch.... We own the domain WashMyDirtyHouse.com. I could see just naming the company that and having a cute little cartoon man logo like some guys here. I think that would be cool.
