I'm not worried about hitting vinyl siding while cleaning a roof, but what do you do with a dormer or a roof to wall section that has cedar siding. I know that the ground guy needs to keep stuff wet, but will he be rinsing away the sauce before it becomes effective?

I personally would try to talk the H/O into cleaning them as well
or you can wet them down, but that will still effect them some what.
Or the other option would be just don't get any cleaner on them? at least minimize it.
I always tell the H/O it's really hard to take a shower with out getting your feet wet.

For cedar trim and shakes I will typically wet down with water, and then spray the adjacent roof area with a backpack or pump up sprayer with super hot (but controlled) mix about two foot away from delicate cedar/redwood/natural trim.
Let me try again, this isn't sounding right. Wet the wood. Spray the shingles by the wood with a pump up using the sauce, but make the sauce a little hotter for that area. You've got much better control coming out of the pump up than out of a roof pump. However you won't have the same volume, hence the "hottening" of the sauce.
I have ruined some stained wood in my younger days, and it sucked!

Thanks for the knowledge and advice. If it's not steep, I'm comfortable walking most roofs so a little extra prep time is well worth saving the cost of replacing cedar or painting.
I did a roof with cedar shake siding last year. We used a pump up. So much more control I'm assuming, (we still use pump ups) than with a delavan we have now. I was very worried. It Came out fine! Now shooting 5- 8 gpm??? Go with the pump up suggestion!
