I'm thinking about what to do too. I was thinking about adding a free gutter cleaning with a complete roof cleaning. I figure I'm gonna be cleaning them anyways, so why not throw that in. If they don't have gutters is the only thing I'm still trying to work out a comparable deal for.
I'd like to hear more from others on this topic to see if this a way to maybe stir a little business up. I think the ads need to be ran more than once. You have to keep yourself out there in front of the consumer. Just like to hear some others thoughts on this :)
Im prepping my first run of door hangers and decided to stay away from coupons for the time being, Its my first run, and no one else is in the area, i have no competition, so i think just informing them will do the best for me.
However a promo idea of mine is ( and im not exactly sure how to word it yet ) but
3 house in a row deal,
So basically if you get both your neighbors to sign up ill give you each 100$ off
so instead of 2 $500 jobs in a day you can squeeze in 3$ 400 and not leave set up break down etc..
Again not sure how to word it but i bet it would do well..
With advertising in newspapers or magazines you dont always get work your first week. It really does take a week or 2 or 3. I've been giving free gutter cleans with roof wash the whole time. I dont advertise it. If I had no competition you can bet I'd be trying to set the price high. As long as it is less than 10% of replacing the roof. Too many lowballers putting out prices that are way too low! Puts in the customers head that IS the "value" of that job.
I recently heard of a guy advertising $125 house wash. My buddie shopped him and for, I think, $75 if he can wash it today, and a $25 deck wash? No chit! This puts an incredibly low price in the minds of the consumer. It would be impossible to run a business at those prices.

I have tried a lot of times with roof cleaning, house washing, driveway cleaning, etc... and most of the time the neighbors are not ready to do anything or one or both of them cancel when you go to do the job.
Marketing is different in every type of service business out there, some works here where some does not work over there, etc...
I have tried things that worked great for landscapers and tree trimmers and pool cleaners but did not work for me.
Just try things out and tweak them a lot until they produce but if that type of marketing does not work then try something else.
It is kind of like the yellow pages. I know some industries that swear by them, having the bigger ad is more work, etc.... the yellow pages did not really do much for me but I am not a professional marketer either.
We have to keep on trying to find out what works in our market.

not to sound criticle but unless you have strong compatition on your back why cut your prices and sell yourself short the most money for your labor not quantity of homes for less money as a customer looking at 100 dollars off per home id be curious to know your profit margin thinking your pricing must be high car dealers only offer 25-50 for a referrel when working on homes most neighbors inquire as to doing thiers again dont want to sound criticle just doesnt sit right i have worked for less to keep busy but when things break and operating cost are paid and your pockets empty makes you wonder
