Comes in 55 gallon drums if you are storing it I suggest you use the dark blue drums and store in a cool place in the warmer months. this will make it last longer. In hot weather and with lots of sunlight it will go down much quicker than the shelf life chart. Also don't let metal come in contact with it as this robs the strength.

Thanks a lot guys! I had searched everywhere online and everything I found seemed to differ. I did discover though that if the manufacterer filters the sh, it will last longer than infiltered.
How about SH stored outside over the winter. Just bought some from a pool supplier and thought it was kind of week. Would the cold weather have an affect? Looks like higher temps are the problem.
In the winter the cold might have stopped the free chlorine loss temporarily. In 60-80deg F after the first 35-40 days it starts to rapidly break down stabilizing at about 3-4%.
I know that Chlorine is not quite the same as SH, but that is what I've been using and it seems to have been working for me. I will definitely be looking into SH, but haven't seen that forum yet.
Anyway, for the time being, what is the shelf life of...
-straight chlorine -chlorine diluted with water at 50/50 mix -other chlorine/water ratios
I'm not sure how to interpret degradation. If someone could put it in terms of how many days it's good for, that would be great.
(Note. Chlorine is stored in trailer not exposed to sunlight. It's also been a cool 60-70 degrees recently.)
I have a roof to clean [1200 sq ft asphalt shingles] but my left over SH is about 5 months old. It's been stored inside, in the black drum from supplier, and it foams like a rabid dog when rubbed between fingers. Wondering if I mixed it stronger, say 50/50 or even more if it will work, been doing some softwashing with it and it's seems to be working. Buying fresh this time of year is not an option with a 156 gal. minimum and snow forecast for later next week !!
Plan is to do it tommorow, temp. 63 degrees and sunny.
I know that Chlorine is not quite the same as SH, but that is what I've been using and it seems to have been working for me. <snip>
Actually unless you are referring to chlorine gas, "chlorine" is a generic term used for many chemicals in which "chlorine" is a part.
Sodium Hypoclorite is a solution containing between 10-15% "chlorine"
There is also Sodium Dichlorite and Calcium Hypoclorite which are used by some roof cleaners. These also contain high available chlorine amounts.
Just thought I'd clarify.
