Chet, my trailer has sides that are about 6" high. It would be alot easier if I could just butt up to the front corner and then strap. But trying to strap 6" high makes the barrel top heavy.
I think Bill's idea will work. Basically, I'm going to build a base for the drum out of 4x4s and then use straps. This should prevent any sliding of the barrels.
ps. I have no intention on carrying over 1000lbs of chemical; therefore, shouldn't break any DOT regulation.
Thanks everyone for your replies....I think problem is solved or at least I'll find out Saturday when I get to go to work on the contraption.
LOL I swear sometimes you guys try to make this a lot harder than it is. Not to mention there are about 20 other threads on this forum explaining this over and over again in detail. Thanks for the laughs guys. Now to detail my posts lol.
I only carry 55 gal of SH and use another 55 to mix on site. The third 55 is for making non chlorine mixes so it is empty on the road as well. I tend to clean 2-3 roofs a day wih my good ol 55's and they work great. You can put them up front but the tongue of most tralers is only made to hold 400lbs or so. So if they are on your tongue area they might as well be on the truck itself, were they will not damage your trailer. Also the tongue is usually were the air compressor goes for those of you using aodd pumps. I plan to squeeze a 200gal water tank between the tongue and axle that will also be empty but there if I need it. This tank will not be used daily were as the mixing tanks will.
I thought That Kent guy was Superman??
Read your manufacturer recomendations for your trailer so you can see we don't just make this stuff up. Look at the other pros trailers as well.
you said you needed to mount them in the midddle for safty reasons? I didn't quite follow that thought 55 gal is not that extremly heavy also you are not going to be traveling while it is full. I guess your drum of sh will be full but thats a diffrent story. I just wasn't sure why you doun't stick it in the front corner and run a strap around
I was thinking the same thing. I have 2 drums fenced in and strapped down on the front of my trailer and it rides and works fine...
All this talk about multiple drums mounted on a trailer can be a bad deal. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the limit by DOT standards used to be 1000LBS of solution (SH) in any concentration. Seems like the last 55 gal. drum I bought was over 600lbs. Mix your solurion with water and you're well over the limit. Haz Mat stickers will allow you to carry more, but they are PITA. Food for thought!! Your government protecting you.LOL
You are correct and for that reason I used 30 gallon drums, 1 for SH and the other for my ugly off mix. My average job so far has used 30 gallons so it is working out where I don't end up with a lot left over and if I need more I can just mix it up. It is not the ideal set up but for now it is working out just fine for me.
Yeah you don't want a leaky bunghole thats the worst. ..........I just could not resist myself.
