Thickening agents that I can buy locally?

I've been reading the posts here about SH thickening agents with great interest recently,.. but I've been unable to find ANY of the chems mentioned in Ireland. Is there any "off the shelf" household product I can use instead? At the moment I'm using dish soap, which helps, but I think it could still be improved.

Take into account that there are no asphalt roofs, shingles etc here,.. its all pretty indestructible concrete or fibre cement tiles so I'm not worried about damage nearly as much as you guys would be. The majority of my work is softwashing painted walls or vinyl siding too.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

at the moment I'm using 1 litre of dish soap to 25 litres of 10% SH (My supply of 12% disappeared :( )

Would you recommend a higher ratio?
