This is what I would recommend using... We keep a 300 gal. water supply and 3-55 gal tanks for chem mixing.

Dry cleaners will have them for $10... I just cant make myself pay $100 for one at TSC...

The other thing you can do with the smaller 35-40 gallon tanks is simply carry a few 5 gal. buckets full of straight SH when you think you may need more. Mix on site then. Not ideal, but a fairly simple alternative when limited on space and/or budget. Great for those just starting out.

Car washes usually have 55g drums for FREE. Also, Tractor Supply is a bit more expensive on poly tanks, but you can go pick it up and may equal out. But at least you will have it.

i get 30 and 55 gallon barrels from the local car wash. i got my large tote from a local seasonal rv park. everyone there seems to use them for non potable water seasonally. i got mine for free, but they had tons of them for like 50 bucks.

You could actually get drums as a few mentioned above at a local car wash. I would go with the 15 gallon drums they have and use them to get your sh in from your supplier if you pick up yourself or you can mount the 15 gallon drum nicely on a dolly and weld a piece of 1/4 diamond plate to the back and mount your 12 volt pump and battery bow and have a portable roof rig. Just something to think about. I love the 15 gallon drums for transporting SH. Works better for me than hauling 3 5er's around. Just thought I would throw that out there :)

I noticed one post where someone said shipping was a killer. If thats the case i would check plastic-mart.com, i noticed a few tanks (100 or 150 gallons cant remember) on sale on the website for somewhere around $150 and it seemed that there was no shipping cost if anyone is looking for a tank.

Chris,

You say to start with a 100 gallon tank. I see multiple tanks on your rig, do you have the additional tanks for chemical storage so you can mix on the go? Is that part of the evolution?

Tractor supply sells a variety of tanks, but they are predrilled with bulkheads.

Be carefull about larger tanks. Everything Chris said is right. I already want longer lines and hose reels, but we been gettin by.

Some federal law about carying around SH, over I think 119 gallons.

I still 5 gallon everything. What sh I dont use I put back inside the shed at night. I used to keep alot in there and rotate every time. I've cut that back as its slowing down for the year. What I keep in the shed.

Gonna try some new ideas this week to generate more biz this time of year before the leaves start falling!!!

I beleive there from Arizona.
Just bought a 100 gallon tank for $139.00 they charge me $50.00 for shipping to MA. (ups)

Most other sites that i went to were charging shippingt cost as much as the tank it's self...cRaZy..

I found a 275 gallon tote in a pretty steel cage, very professional looking from a local lawn care company. It contained fertilizer at one time but it was pre "boiled out" which turns out the EPA makes them do before they can be re-used. Best part it was only 30 bucks.
So maybe give your local grass guy a call and odds are he will have something for you

Check with your local chemical supplier. Most times they get shipped once with degreaser or something similar and do not use them anymore. Also if you have a dairy farm near by, check with them. they use them once and discard also.
