In my community signs that are placed along roads and at intersections are against the law. I called the county to find out what happens and I was told that you could be fined for each sign collected. The person shared with me that the signs are usually just pulled by the maintenance crews when they are cutting the grass and thrown away. A fine may come into play when the county actually recieves a complaint about the sign.
Signs put on the side of road are usually gone within 1 week or sooner depending on cutting schedules. That can get expensive depending on the number of signs you distribute.
I was always taught in Sales that you give them the headache first, then you present the aspirin.
"Mr Customer, your SUV has over 150,000 miles on it, it may break down on your wife and kids at any time, let me show you how easy it is to drive a new Chevrolet"
Whats eating your roof gives them the headache, safe roof cleaning gives them the aspirin for their headache.
I like headlines that ask a question, or make a BOLD statement.

This is true! That is why you go out at night, and stick up as many signs as you can high up on Telephone poles on major intersections! The signs simply say "Roof Cleaning" then your company phone number. When the sign cops call, you tell them you know nothing about them! Tell them you hired a commission only salesman, and HE must have done it ? IF they ask his name, tell them his name is "Bill W" ? If they ask you why you don't know his last name, tell him he is a guy you met at an AA Meeting, and they dont use last names at AA
They will eventually remove the signs, until then, you got free advertising.

I like that idea.
A simple basic cheap 18x24 sign that you don't have to worry about if it gets taken down, as long as it works.
What do you think?
Less is more Mike, I like it!!
Oh, tell the sign cops that you gave the salesman you met at AA some pictures to show customers, and HE must have taken it upon himself to make the signs.
Much better sign! People dont have long to look at them. Quick and fast discription of service and #. Yellow grabs the eye better than a white sign if text only.
I did outdoor signs with co name and all. Thought I'd get name recognition also but that doesnt work. 2 years, 2 tries nuthin lol!
I didnt know what I know now about those signs. I had too much info on them. If I did them again, just service offered, phone # and yellow. A picture is awesome. Speaks a million words. but... if you place them in front of the home the neighbors prob already know how their neighbors roof looked before. Or they will look at the finished job and then look at their roof! adding pictures to outdoor signs cost alot more money. Here are 2 pictures of previous signs. If you think about it its too much information for the brain to consume.
I didnt have the sign thing right lol. If I try it again. They will be yellow and the service and phone #. Thats it. The larger sign with the pictures I place in the yard and took away when leaving, till I realized that my truck has all that on it? LOL! 30 bucks a sign is too expensive to leave for 2 weeks and hope i get it back. So I never considered that. Maybe this year I'll place a less expensive sign in front of the property. Yellow, service offered and phone #?
Some one asked how to put the sign in the ground. well the best way, and the outdoor sign companies sell them, are these metal wire things.
We are an established name, so we us it. But I suggest JUST roof cleaning and phone number, maybe web site, if easy to remember, catchy URL ? Like Mike Sullivan says "Less is More"
PLAN on them getting stolen or removed by sign cops, owners, kids, competitors, etc, etc
I agree on the Yellow, it catchhes the eye, stands out in the Grass.
I normally suggest the LESS is more approach ( as per Chris's suggestions ). For "Get the Word Out" BASIC 1 color 18x24 signage as a disposable option and for fast traffic areas, these are terrific, however...
Here is a MORE is BETTER than LESS Sign we use effectively when we leave a upscale customers home, when they allow us to leave them. These are not your ordinary 1 color throw aways.
These are FULL COLOR 48" x 48" coroplast (1 sided) signs that require some special bracing we developed to hold them in place. They work well. I have more info about our marketing strategies on the ARCA if you care to read how we get the customer to accept these monster signs in thier yard and how we brace them?
Note: Please newbies, don't copy these verbatim, just get some ideas from all these guys and my sign and hire your own design guy and make something DIFFERENT and unique to YOU and your business? BTW, I have and did use a couple things from anothers sign or card in my past too, but only after I ASKED and got PERMISSION? Thanks for you professionalism

all of these designs are great! thanks for all the help as I have been playing w/ designs and having a hard time. just remember that the placement of the sign may determine the type of sign you put up....for intersections, I definetely think the less is more sign is more effective as they have very little time to read. However, in front of a home, a more detailed sign showing a before and after photo may work great...
Yes, to answer Mike. It was Keith. And I have a trademark application filed, LOL
Glad you like it! $30.00 bucks ea. (I keep a close eye on these and get them back)
I have been wanting to share them but I was advised not to till now?
He has come up with a winner for Roof Clean USA as long as I don't have fight all the guys that now, once they see it, want to run out and make a duplicate "one of their own"
That is why they have patents, trademarks and lawyers in the USA
The LEGAL STUFF : I have been keeping these under wraps for about a year now.
IMPORTANT: I KNOW MOST of you guys and most everyone her are great, and respectful, professionals that would never do what I about to suggest but, I have to say it to CYA or mine, in this case. This is an example only guys, please don't run out and make a exact copy, please or you will get a letter and a call from my legal guy and I really don't want to fight about this, just don't copy me?

They're selling (100) 18" x 24" one side, one color signs for $1.40 each!
Here's my new ultra simple sign that I will cut in half to make (200) 9" x 24" signs for the same price.
LOL Mike, here in Tampa, just the WORD Power Washing will scare roof cleaning customers away. You will receive hate mail, and threatening phone calls, if people even THINK you intend to bring a power washer near their roof! Buy NC is different, I hear they use Vinegar to BBQ You know YOUR area, but here in Tampa, Power Washing mentioned with roof cleaning will not work.

FYI,
For the new guys looking at my sign and saying "oh Kewl, a new sign design i can "lift ideas from for free".....think again.
As per my attorney,
I have a poor mans' patent on the ABOVE design and applied for basic trademark protection having submitted the artwork and pictures but the process is entirely not complete.
Don't get me wrong guys, I am happy to share most things, just not what I paid a designer to develop (Keith) and a lot of head scratching to get right.
Get some ideas, make your own, please kindly DO NOT COPY MINE?
I dont think anybody has to worry about anybody else going out and making an exact copy of something someone else has done. Hopefully we are all professionals here and are able to share w/ each other and help each other come up w/ ideas. Hopefully we are professional enough to receive the help and ideas of others to come up w/ our own unique and original things.

Good Point. Lets hope not Zeke, but stick around, and watch? Ya never know what might happen. In my book, from EXPERIENCE "Its Better to CYA, than to, leave it to chance and say, what the hay, what the heck it'll never happen,....not"

Mike, I like the simplicity of your recent designs and the cost.
Just as Chris said the PWing add in scares away the "customers?
Maybe, soft wash is a better approach? Just a thought....
