Thank you for your input, I see you have quite a bit of knowledge about Chlorine dioxode and I respect your comments.
can I ask what do you know of Sodium Chlorite as a standalone product, for as I understand this also is used as a bleaching agent in it's own right? or am I wrong.
The disinfecting power of chlorine is increased by lowering the pH, absolutely. This is due to the greatly increased presence of hypochlorous acid that is created by the low pH. Hypochlorous acid, which exists increasingly as pH drops below 6 is also EXTREMELY corrosive and damaging to soft metals and wood. You might want to think twice about using acidified bleach... also if the pH drops too low, you stop creating hypochlorous acid and start creating poisonous chlorine gas... not good!
Sodium chlorite doesn't have a lot of activity when used alone... if you have a low pH that is present (we sometimes inject sodium chlorite in oil wells that are full of acidic hydrogen sulfide, where the pH then generates ClO2 in the well itself) you can use it sometimes. For most applications however it doesn't have enough activity to justify the cost.
Spoke with the Mfr. Rep. today. He stated that the company now has EPA approval for the U.S. and he is awaiting a shipment to his office. When he receives it, he is going to send samples to most everyone that has requested them on here. He also wants to come to Louisville Ky. to watch a roof cleaning operation using his product. The people in his tech. support group are now aware of what we want to use the product for and feel confident that it will perform very well with NO problems. I'll keep everyone posted as to what is going on as it happens.
Great reading Roof Bright! The only way to tell is to TRY it. I don't like the part where it says Chlorine Dioxide dont react to Organic Matter. Algae is organic matter. Plus, the oxidation potential is relatively weak, compared to other oxidizers from what I read in the chart. I think we might play with it as an additive to our mixes perhaps ? MAYBE it will kick the chlorine in the azz some ??

Came across a product today that might be of interest. may be, if you think it might work you could help me research it
it has up to 260% more oxidation output compared to chlorine (bleaching power) has a stable half life of 30-40 days, is safer then chlorine on us and the environment, is less corrosive then plain water and comes as a 2 part powder
Dose it look interesting???
Ok here it is, it is called TwinOxide http://www.twinoxide.com/ basically. it is a powdered & safe form of Chlorine Dioxide
any way as I said I have just come cross it and thought I might share and may be you could help see if it is worth while for us. Cheers.
You just have to try these things I guess. Disinfecting and cleaning are 2 different things.

go to the bottom of this page http://www.mixeddisin fectants.com/disinfectant.htm
mix Chlorine dioxide and sodium hypochlorite together and they boost and compliment each other???
One two punch....
Another hypothesis for the increased effectiveness of interactive disinfectants is that the first oxidant (i.e., chlorine, chlorine dioxide, or ozone) conditions the outer membrane of Cryptosporidium oocysts so that the secondary oxidant (i.e., chlorine, chlorine dioxide, and monochloramine) can penetrate the oocyst more easily (Liyanage et al., 1996). For example, preliminary work on the disinfection of Cryptosporidium parvum using free chlorine followed by monochloramine suggested that there may be a synergism involving two chlorine species. Sequential treatment of these chlorine species was found to provide greater inactivation than expected from the additive effects of the two disinfectants used alone (Gyurek et al.," 1996).
Something is stretching the screen guys, driving me NUTS, trying to fix it. LONG URL's, or really long sentences with quotation marks, etc, etc stretch the forum. IF, after a post you see the forum stretched, and it wasn't before, then something you did made it so. Help me out, I want to participate in the forum. How can I if I have to baby sit it all the time ?

Received the samples, mixed some up and put it on dirty roof and also greyed out wood. Did litle to nothing on either one. Works fair in a swimming pool but a lot of work to mix for a pool. Forget about it! It is not for roof cleaning.
