Will a tote tank work?

I found a 250 gal tote tank container on sale for $75 on craig'slist that was used for herbiside.  It is one of those big cube shaped tanks wrapped in a metal cage.  Ive seen them on farms before. I will try to post the pic.  Can I use this for my mix.  What should i clean it with?

It seems like a good deal.
Thanks all,
 Mike

That is exactly what I use. Mine had Apple juice in it. After 1st use, they can't be used for food products. Most companies dispose of them. I got mine from a friend for FREE. He bought 4 of them at an auction for $10.00 total. Added a ball valve in line with the one on the tank just for safety.

Those tanks do work good for Roof Cleaning mix. The only downside that I've seen from guys who use them is the swishing around factor. A couple of Roof Cleaners that I know have installed a baffle such as those orange plastic construction type fences to reduce the sloshing around.

Swishing around is good. Keeps the mix stirred up and ready. I add all ingredients at home and by the time I get to job site, all is well mixed.

I agree! I do the same thing... We are not talking about normal swishing/mixing here though. Load one of those square tanks onto your rig and fill it half way with water and drive around and you will see what I am talking about. Good luck keeping your truckand trailer from swaying around. Also its not much fun sitting at a red light rocking forwards and backwards while your waiting for the light to change.

In some cases I can understand your point. My truck is a 3500 series, diesel dually with overload springs and Heavy duty shocks. Takes a little more that a couple hundred gallons of anything to make it sway sideways. It will rock back and forth at traffic lights, but I sorta enjoy it!biggrin  Makes me remember my rocking chair, which is where I should be instead of cleaning roofsyawn.  LOL

You may try a business in your area that mixes or distributes a food or beverage product. As I said earlier, these tanks are a "One time use" item in the food industry. They may give you some free!  Worth checking in to.  Keep us posted.

Go to a automatic car wash. They have 20 gal and some bigger tanks you could use for mix and I think some use the big tanks also. Might be able to pick them up cheap there?

those tote tanks are cheap enough, I have one I paid 100 bucks for it, I been using it for water for the last 7 years.

If I had the money I would buy the nice horizontal leg tank they look so much more professional, especially on a open trailer or truck.

Customer look at your equipment, they like their neighbors to notice that they hire real professionals, matter of fact they like you to park where everyone can see your rig.

Agreed.  Most pressure cleaners seem to like using them for just cold water though.  I found a chem company in an industrial park behind me selling them on craiglist for $35-$75 a pop.

I thought about it, but I'd rather just save up and get a 250 gal leg tank for the same reason.  Hell, even the PCO tanks used by pesticide companies will manage to put advertising on them even if its just a 100 gal tank.

I was able to pick up a 275 gallon tote for 40 dollars from a local food distributer. It was only used 1 time with a bladder on the inside, it never even got dirty and they had stacks of them for sale.

I started building my system and reading all I can to learn how to properly clean roofs. As I was reading I came across the part about bottom feeding confuse.

Yesterday I removed my "NEW NEVER USED 275 GALLON BOTTOM FEEDING TANK" and I posted it on craig's list for 60 dollars. I have installed a top feeding tank instead, just the thought of dripping down their scares me. wink Hopefully my equipment from Lori will arrive today and I will be able to finish the build and do some test sprays.

I'm the one who had the problem with a tank that had been used to spray pesticide. I learned a valuable lesson from that experience. Here is the link to the thread.

The Apple Cider Sauce mix did a good job of cleaning the tank.
