I would say the wind chill was about 35, not much wind. This was a touch up job that I had to do. There were about 3 or 4 spots that I either missed last week or whatever. I drove by the house after a rain, and noticed that it needed redone.
Rather than having the customer call me to complain, I always like to call them first. I told her that I was very unhappy with the roof cleaning and that I would be right out to make it right.
IMHO, there is no other way to do business. They appreciate the fact that you took the time to check on their house, and admitted to the error. I believe this business is all about the referral.
Have a great weekend everyone. Lets go Steelers!!!!
Brad that was a great thing you did with your customer. If you would continue managing your business that way you will be very successful. Brad with this type of business you can accumulate alot of customers quick, and if you were to stay in touch with them by sending thank you cards, or calling them, and even stopiping by to say hi and asking for a referal you will have a thriving business. That is the biggest mistakes I have done not keeping in touch with my customers.
You can do a roof as long as the water doesn't freeze, I did a roof last week when I started it was 36 degrees and when I finished it was 35 degrees. Just let it dwell a little longer.

Roy please tell me all about this roof you cleaned on that 35 degree day. was it easy, did it take a little longer, how do you convince your customers to clean during the winter. I know allot of other members like these cold weather cleaning stories as well.
I never clean in the rain, even a light rain. The chemical must have time to dry to take the full effect. Also, in my opinion, the roof will stay clean longer if it is allowed to dry. I have been caught in the rain though while in the middle of a job and it was not good. I had to use way more chemical than usual and think of the dangers also, lightning, slipping off the ladder or roof, etc. Just tell them that youll clean in the first day its not gonna rain. Explain what I said above and they will totally understand.
The chemicals WILL NOT clean the roof if they are on the ground.
NEVER attempt to clean a tile roof in the rain. Unless of course you can beat the rain.
If is a simple mist, apply your chemical and retreat to your vehicle. You do have to allow it to work longer. We often test and area with a light second application. You will be surprised what a simple misting will do.
3 words to remember when cleaning in the rain. WATER, WATER, WATER. I've cleaned roofs in extremely cold weather with success. Patience saves money.
I was just reading through this thread and appreciate everyone's input. I live in South Carolina, halfway between Charleston and Columbia, and during the summer we have rain and thunderstorms in the forecast nearly every day. Chris - I had a LOL moment when I read your remark about "roof surfing"! Thanks, Wayne
Nice job. From what I've read on this site I thought that you could spray with temps around 40 degrees. Chris provided some nice tips as to how to handle spraying in a light rain, which is something I didn't know and didn't consider. Good Luck in the future.

Ok you guys talked me into I was going to reschedule due to drizzle in the am, but have decided to go with it anyway. I've done wet roof before but usually wait until the day after a rain to spray it. Tomorrow I'll live dangerously, after all it is Friday!!!
