I am currently using the APPLE CIDER mix to clean roofs, and I am wondering for those of you who use this blend, is there any cheaper alternative to using name brand Dawn? I was using a generic dishwashing detergent from Sam's club, but they no longer carry it here.
Thanks, Ben

Do not use antibacterial! It creates chlorine gas! If you buy Dawn at Walmart, it is only $4.00 for 56 oz. That is usually enough for one job. Ajax is cheaper, but I find that a lot of places don't sell the Ajax around here.

I used the ultra-concentrated on a job this past summer. And had no problems with it. I used 2 bottles to a 50 gal mix I figured that would equal about the same as 1 of the large 56oz bottles of regular dawn. It worked fine.

I use the dawn when it's warm, but in cooler temps I have been using ajax. The ajax does not congeal like dawn in cooler temps. The warning on the back of both ajax and dawn says not to mix with bleach, because it will release irritating fumes. I have been trying to find out what kind of "fumes" they are talking about. Just be safe, and ALWAYS wear your PPE.
Antibacterial soap is a no-no. The Ajax is no were near as sticky as the Dawn, especially ultra concentrate, and really this should be about the cheapest part of your mix consisting of 2-4$ worth of surfactant.
a few days ago i posted a new surfactant ammonyx Lo it's been three days and the ammonyx Lo has not weekend the SH at all but the real test will be two weeks if this works by by dawn ajax and NP9 helo ammonyx LO

THANK YOU! Yesterday after picking up some sh and being the eager beaver I wanted to try my first small batch of roof mix to tryout on a part of my parents shed that had some lichen and fungus. So i pour in my sh then water, run into my moms kitchen to grab the dawn, then start to squeeze it in. I start mixing it for a bit and pour it into a pump sprayer all the while im starting to feel nauzeous. First thought is this has to be some good SH and i havent ate all day. Then it occurs to me maybe im using the wrong type of Dawn. So I look at the bottle and it says apple blossom, ultra concentraded, antibacterial. I remember reading something about not using ultra concentrated, so I come to the forum search and proceed to read DO NOT USE ANTIBACTERIAL!! Im glad i decided to come and read before i put the lid on the pump sprayer and gave it some pumps. Good thing i was only doing a small batch and was being conservative with the dawn and i was unsure as to how much to put in at first.
