That is a good line Gary. And so true. People with $500-1mm homes dont want someone without insurance on their roof. And in the end, the guys that are charging .08 a foot arnt gonna be able to do this long. But then again, if their purpose is to upsell then who knows.

I dont do residential concrete that cheap.
Almost all people DO NOT ask or care about insurance. if you didn't price around .08-.10 you wouldn't be working.
Yes...........I too don't understand the low ballers selling the most dangerous service that can be performed on a home for the average cost of a dish washer repair, or the combined cost of pool and yard service for one month????
As many of you know we just re-launched Mallard Systems into the Central Florida (orlando) market after a 2 year absence. Last week we had 20 leads come in. Of those 20 leads we had a poor closing ratio for the week. We closed 11 of them. Our final closed sales for the week were $11,835.00 a slow week for October.
Here is the math....
20 leads, 11 closed, $11,835.00 in business = $1,075.90 average sale.
Yall just need to get your prices up and tell these low ballers to go fly a kite:)
AC
Could you educate us on how to get this many leads in a week?
You guys need to take a look at AC's web site and read his history. There is something to be said about being very educated in your profession. You can never be satisfied with what you are doing. You have to have that drive to know more and more about your profession. You have to want to understand how all of this works and understand the chemistry behind it. All of that understanding makes you and much more professional and successful sales person.
It really comes down to how much you want it! Read and research! The answers are out there. You have to put the time in to reap the rewards. You can't just ask for everything. A/C was never satisfied with his company. He always strived for more.
This web site is fantastik, but it is not the only web site you should be researching if you want your business to succeed. Fliers and door hangers are nice, but you need to find ways to make your name recognizable. Successful businesses begin with name recognition. You need to find ways to make people remember your business and service. Expand your mind and you will see your business expand, but you really have to want it!

You have to have an advertising budget, Mr. AC does and uses it very effectively. You've seen his trucks, I'm not sure what else he does but apparently it's working. I run adds in the penny savers, bus stops, bill boards and nice trucks. It cost a lot but it comes down to how busy do you want to be. I hate the yellow pages, but I have a full two page add (its criminal what they charge a month) but I'm scared not to have them. I really need to get off my a$$ and do more on-line advertising. This site is helping me in that area. Thanks to all. MW
I wouldn't show up for $200 bucks. I can't. It would COST ME MONEY to do a roof for $200. As I said before: KNOW YOUR NUMBERS! These guys doing these types of roof cleanings are destined to go out of business within 2-3 years.
Here in Evansville, I like to think we have done a good job of educating Evansville homeowners about the proper roof cleaning methods. We have invested a significant amount of time, money, and resources into educating and then selling.
This year alone has paid off huge dividends for us. It seems that all the previous years of hard work finally returned on the investment and we are now regarded as the premier evansville, indiana roof cleaning contractors.
I pay about $2.20/gallon right now. I wish I had your prices! On the other hand, I am charging about $.35/sqft on my roof cleaning. I am the only person in my area that is doing non pressure roof cleaning. The other companies are all using the "roof rover". There is a guy about 2 hours from me that does non pressure cleaning, but he does not really impact me at all.

1. Doesn't it cost everyone money to do the roof?
2. Classic example your in a different area of the country. We have been in business for 7 years now. "Under Pressure"since 2006.
3. $250 is as low as I can go , since I know my numbers. I still make some money.
We try to do more than 1 roof in a day, so the numbers are cumulative.
Different areas are total different in pricing and costs to operate, thats why asking how much to charge for anything is almost futile, your better off asking in your own neck of the woods (so to speak).
I have lost my last 3 quotes to someone under cutting me. What is frustrating is that I'm the first one out because they are responding to my door hanger. I go out and size the roof and calculate my quote. During my inspection I tell the client about my company and methods. You know all the things you want them to know. They are also given before and after pictures to view my work and some written material which reinforces what I'm telling him.
Here's how my last quote went. I calculated the roof size and came up with a quote of $460. I use .15/sq ft. The homeowner asked me if I could go lower. I told him during the summer I was running a special where I would clean the driveway for free with a roof cleaning. I said I would give him that special. He said he was only interested in getting his roof cleaned and wanted to know if I could lower my price. So I came down to $400. He said he would think about it and call me. I followed up the next day and was told he had someone else come out who gave him a lower price. I asked if he would share that price with me and he said the guy was going to clean his roof for $300.
I could clean the roof for $300 and make a little money. I may have to adjust my prices down if I continue to lose to others.
Brian, What is the cost of your average roof job? I could only dream of .35/sqft.
im just about always $100 or so higher than the last bidder but i still end up getting the job if i give a estimate of $400 and the customer tells me he has another for $300 my next question is how long is his warranty because no pressure washing company can offer any warranty they are hoping it comes back in a few months this way the can get the job every year my warranty is two years if you do the math the customer is saving $200 not spending an extra hundred this usually ends the conversation about price enless the dont plan on being there more than a few months. the other good side of a warranty is the extra work i went to touch up a roof i did a year ago no biggie it was dirt not alge but while i was there i sold him on another housewash screenroom and driveway this is what usually happens i hope for it i love it when a customer calls me for a touch up it almost always means more money and they love the fact that you were more than happy to honor the warranty. they will be your customer for life if the trust you and think you are honorable
