What happens to dried Apple Sauce on roof after a few dry days?

Question: You apply Apple Sauce to the roof and walk away without rinsing. It does not rain for a couple of days. When the next rain does come, will the run off kill plants and grass, or will the sauce be weakened by then and pose no threat? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with thomas, I've read a lot on this forum and I don't think too many of the pros are rinsing anymore. I don't plan on rinsing when I get started.

The Chlorine evaporates, and leaves salt!

Thanks for the help. I know it leaves salt, I guess my question should have been, is there enough salt left that when mixed with a light rain, can cause some damage to vegetation?  I appreciate all the responses you give on the forums.

Yes!
If vegatation is a concern after you leave, do this.
Allow the solution to dry on the roof, then go solicit neighbors.
Then, come back, and from the ground, rinse 1/3 of the roof edges nearest the ground.
Wet plants first, and water them off as you partially rinse the roof.
When the roof is done dripping, rinse plants real well again.

A LIGHT rain is a roof cleaners worst nightmare.

OR, you can tell the customer that you left a treatment on his roof, for maximum longevity of the roof cleaning ?
Make them aware they must rinse all plants after a light rain ?

a GOOD rain, and you are home free.

Imagine that you dropped five pounds of NaCl table salt on your roof (yes, this is probably a gross exaggeration of what's actually left when Apple Sauce evaporates).  If you applied just enough water with a house to get all that salt off and let it run out the gutters and sit in the lawn, I can imagine your customer's lawn might be a little unhappy with you.  However, a light rain would be more equivalent to filling a bathroom water sprayer -- like you might chase a cat off the furniture with -- and setting it to "mist."  Yes, some salt will be carried off, but most of it is just gonna stay up there until there's more rain.  A heavy rain is more like the hose example, except then the whole lawn is wet, and the salt is swept out of the lawn and into the storm drain.  Rain isn't localized with just a heavy dose on top of the house and none anywhere else...

Of course, as Chris pointed out, a light rain could be just heavy enough to move the salt off the roof but not to the storm drain.  I like his suggestion of telling the customer to get out there and water down the plants after a light rain (have them sign this with the customer agreement), especially if you're working with a ground guy and have explained to the customer that you water down the landscape because the mix is only a hazard (due to its salt content) when it's concentrated.

What goes up, must come down.
So, even a little water will run down a roof, onto the ground, because of gravity/slope of roof.

That's good info Chris. I could have screwed up by not knowing that. Gutters would change the situation I assume. I figured every thing got weak on the roof.

Hi guys, sorry I have been away (Family Issues)
Pushing 100 Roofs for the season!!!
Yes the chlorine does break down, remember it is the salt shock that is of concern mostly!! With gutters the salt will sometimes kill a small amount of grass at the exit. This is a good example of why adding more SH to stale SH can cause issues as well as using stale SH in large amounts. The Chlorine content will be low but the amount of salt left behind will rise!

He now has the mighty Peace Prize. That will really swell his head. If you are in sales or run your  on business You already know the economy is greatly affected With foreclosures, job loses and fear of losing a job. Not all his fault. Just does'nt seem to be getting better right now. David could not understand why the strongest, best fighters stood on a hill shaking while a 9' giant stood in the valley cursing them day and night. He was Goliath. David ran down the hill, unafraid, knowing with the power of the almighty God with him He was going to kill Goliath. And he did. There will always be obstacles. Keep your mind and your heart right. Give it your best. Say your prayers and be thankfull for everything.

I couldn't agree more Andy. Remember, David picked up 5 smooth stones. If you study the bible, you know that David killed other giants--not just Goliath. (2Samuel 21:15-22) Maybe he wanted to be prepared for the others that would come for revenge. I guess the lesson is...we're going to face many giants, but we need to trust that they can ALL be defeated. The economy will rebound sooner or later, but if for some reason it doesn't, God is still in control.

I wouldn't start a job if it was raining although it was sprinkling when we were finishing a job and it turned out okay.  Any additional water is going to dilute the Love.
