I did my first roof clean today after 10 yrs out of the business, man a lot has changed. I looked around the last few days on this site and cant find help with a few questions I have.
I used an X-Jet with a red proportioner and chemicals from sunbrite (Roof Kleen). I got the roof over the garage sprayed with roof kleen and waited 20 min. I then went back with a water hose to rinse. I didnt notice much change. Waited 45 min on another section, same results. The temp was around 75 and cloudy with a drizzle for about an hour. What did i do wrong?
I got 12.5% SH, Roof Kleen and an X-Jet it took me 4 hr to complete a roof the size of a doublewide plus a 2 car garage.
What is a good roof mix for a 5 gal pail to use with an x-jet?
Thank you for your time

Use the search feature and plug in Apple cider, sauce or cider sauce. I would say that everyone that cleans roofs on this forum uses one of those mixes.
Good luck and like Pat said, there is a ton of info here. Read up and soak it in.

When it's drizzling out and you can see the streaks on the roof have a darker than usual look,..that's not a good time to spray. Should have waited to do the job whith appropriate conditions. That along with using the wrong method and maybe mix equalled a serious wasted effort. Gotta watch doing those things,...can make you look like a novice and it won't generate you any refferal work.

Hi Chris Watson, Welcome to the RCIA,
There is much to learn here so keep your mind open and acceptable to new concepts like plowing fertile soil and the answers will come.
All the guys here are great and many have vast amounts of practical knowledge and will help you AFTER you SEARCH and help yourself some also.
Here is my take on your situation.
May I offer some suggestions and honest advice.
The Problem:
It sounds like over dilution was your main culprit.
The way you described your process and the outcome, to me it sounds like a weak mix may have been the secondary culprit from your description and then, the application method.
The Solution:
First, remember to use the SEARCH feature at the top of the forum and use Keywords for roof chems and proper application methods...Read as suggested, and then read some more. And then practice on some homes with this method and approach of non pressure chemical cleaning toproperly hone your skillset.
You will break down all prior knowledge of roof cleaning as from a pressure washers perspective, once you have done that.
Then, having done your due dilegence, let the ENLIGHTENMENT BEGIN!
The Key:
Apple Sauce, Cider Sauce Or the RCIA new Hybrid called- Mike's Mix (Named after our good friend Mike Sullivan) MIXED at proper cleaning ratios.
The dilution: Correct ratios are very important as are complete and thorough mixing and dissolving of powdered products like TSP.
Try not to apply roof cleaners when you have even light to moderate rain as rain acts like a ph neautralizer dulling your mix and when overdilution and rainwater combine, it can render the mix ineffective.
Especially if you are ALREADY diluting it by down streaming X-JET STYLE.
This is a proverbial "no-no" in the non pressure roof cleaning system of soft wash roof cleaning.
Well, thats all I 've got.
I hope this helps you find your own "AAAA-HA" moment like many others have here on the RCIA.
Good Luck and Keep Readin'

We were all new to roof cleaning once. No one "came out of momma" cleaning roofs. Do not beat up on yourself for making a mistake. There are no mistakes in Life, only learning experiences. One day, you will look back and chuckle at yourself.
You must be SURE you are buying FRESH Sodium Hypochlorite, and applying it with a chemical pump. Downstreaming dont work very well, or there wold be no need for a roof cleaning pump section of this forum.
Look at the equipment everyone is using ? I dont think we have ANY downstreamers on this forum ? It IS possible to downstream, and it will clean a roof, IF you have all day!
