I learn best by doing something but, it would be great to get some photos (with some close-ups) of some rigs that have been in service for a while and have proven to be effective and efficient. A description would also be great. I can tell that many of you guys have spent huge amounts of time and energy in building your rigs so, why not show em off eh? I have seen a couple of good pictures posted but, they often leave me with questions such as... "How is that hose real mounted"? OR "How long is that trailer"? OR "How does he secure that ladder"? OR "Did Gilligan and the Skipper ever get off of that damned island"?
It seems that the ideal situation would be to have a flat bed truck but, I think that most of us are stuck with a trailer set-up.

I agree 100% with your post. I too am new at this and have been reading alot, trying to learn the business before jumping in with both feet. I'm not sure if I should go with a trailer set-up or a truck. I think I got enough info to rig it correctly. These guys are great on this site. Thanks, Doug

Here are some roof cleaning trucks we own, or have owned in the past.
I knew that you'd come through Chris. I have in fact, seen those pictures a couple of weeks ago. These are the pictures that made me wonder what the heck is behind all that "stuff"??? Details baby! Details! I am hoping to see brand names on your tanks, hoses, nuts and bolts - maybe a birds-eye view - how many inches apart is your pump from your compressor...? Now that's not asking too much is it?....... Don't answer that. I know that I'm a pain in the azz. It's just what I do.
I wish that I were in a better financial position to purchase a flatbed truck. Yours look like they make life sooo easy.
By the way, glad to have you back. I hope to run my "the guru" someday.

Since cleaning roofs only is my main business, our trucks are set up for that. Even a smallish flatbed has plenty of room for the dual tanks, compressor/hose reel/pump. We like dual tanks because we clean both tile and shingle roofs. Our pump is as close to the tanks as possible, because we pull from the top of our tanks because bulkheads leak! The compressor and hose reel go where they fit. Always place hose reel facing the right side facing the house, away from the driver side.
You said you like to use dual tanks because you clean both tile and shingle roofs. What are the differences in the love mixes? Is it just a matter of adding more suffacant to the tile mix to get better adhesion?
I am getting ready to do my 1st tile/slate roof. Pictures attached. I should be able to shoot this roof from the gutter line but if I find a need to walk the roof are there any precautions regarding breaking tiles I should take? Is this type of roof pretty strudy when it comes to walking on it?
In one of the pictures you will notice rust stains. Will the love clean the rust or will I need something specifically for rust?
This building has gutters. How should I handle any runoff of love? Have ground man dilute with water hose or bag for removal or not worry about it at all?
Mix up a batch of Iron Out for the Rust Stains. You can get it at Home Depot or Lowes. Roof Mix will not remove it. Bag the gutters and or keep them flooded. Too strong of a roof Cleaning mix Running off onto a blacktop parking lot will make one heck of a mess. Been there done that! Your gonna need a ground guy to rinse the building (Protect Paint etc...) and to rinse where there are no gutters. Better safe than sorry! Here is a link to the Super Iron Out. It works great on those stains. http://www.summitbrands.com/brands/IronOut.aspx

Dual tanks are for different strenth chemicals, tile roofs need a stronger mix then shingles.
Try to stay off the center of the Tiles. This seems to be the weakest area on Flat tile Roofs. You may even consider shooting that one from the Roof line an just letting the mix run down. These are very easy to do this way.

Thanks to Chris and Roof Cleaning Palm Harbor for the quick replies.
Anyone have a comment on walking this type of roof regarding breaking tiles?
Charles
Yeah, LOSE WEIGHT, LOL ALL my roof cleaners are small, like I was, before I got Fat. Walk on the Overlap of the tiles, and be careful. Or, shoot it from a ladder or lift truck/device.
Yes Lori, I get it by the 50 pound bag, 99.8% pure oaxlic powder. It is the bomb on rust stains, on vinyl, concrete, brick. I mix it 8 oz to 1 gallon of water, usually heated water. It will not damage plants, grass. I have used it on vinyl white fencing in certain areas that grass was under neath, no damage to the grass, works really well for hard water stains too. Just pore the bag into two, 5 gallon buckets. I keep a bucket with the lead on in my truck ll the time, with me and it go's a long ways. Give me a call Lori if you have any questions about it I would be happy to help you out.

Jim, I believe she was asking because they make it. They have their own chemical facility where they mix, package and ship many different types of chems from OX to Caustics.
hay james i was just reading over some post, and came across yours.i have a question about the oaxlic acid you use.i use oxalic acid to bring the pH level back for wood decks.did you mean oxalic acid???
Where are all the pictures that this thread was meant for?... "Thank you" to those who posted but SOME of you are holding out on us. Not to be a PITA but I was looking forward to seeing ALOT of setups including some close-ups.
