Patrick - I believe contacting the realtors is a great idea! How excited do you think they will be when they can tell their clients that their roof does not need to be replaced....only cleaned! Their clients will be able to SAVE a ton of money and also MAKE a ton of money because they will be able to sell their house for more...therefore, the realtor will make more money as well.
Nice idea Pat. Inexpensive & effective. Keep us posted as to the response. Three roof's from an email is excellent marketing. There are many ways to be effective and this is one of them.

I draw in the most business from direct mailing of my flyers. I drive around mine and surrounding cities with a recorder getting street names in nice well kept neighborhoods that have the majority of stained roofs, then take that information to my mailing company. They then tell me how many houses are on the streets, then I tell my printing company how many flyers to print. My mailing company picks them up and sends them out. I get a high turn out from these because they are being sent to people that actually need my service. About 2 or 3 jobs more than covers my expenses for the mailings. I also get a lot of business from my website and online business listings.

Gary, I do a presentation with realtors, most have weeky or twice a month meetings. they are happy to have a speaker. I take donuts etc and show a DVD and take 22x24 pictures of roofs that I have done. I make a brief presentation, then do a Q & A Session. Works good for me. Roy Lawson

I've accumulated over 600 names and addresses of roofs in need of cleaning. These are all within 3-4 miles of my house. I plan to get 1,000 on the list. I will market to these homes by calling and knocking on doors.
I still need to work up a web site, business cards, handouts, and signage. Not to mention getting equiped and building out my rig.
The effort has helped to convince me of the tremendous need and potential for business in my area. There isn't a single roof cleaning company in the area that I'm aware of.
Another good avenue should be to network with the local Handyman in the area, and also with you local Ace Hardware for referrals. It's good to buy some product there to help unite your efforts. I am new here and this is my first post, but I look forward to working with all of you true proffesional's.

Yes, Ace Hardwares all sell that DIY roof cleaner that don't work! When the people who bought it come back pissed off, they need a place to send these angry customers! We get plenty of work from Ace Hardware Stores, believe it or not. You gotta go in an Ace Hardware, hang out, and befriend the main employees in the stores. Buy a ball valve or 2 from them ? When I walk into my local Ace Hardware, they know me by name. They know I clean roofs too, and will bail them out when their customers find out that DIY roof cleaner they sell don't work worth a dam!
The Ace Hardware guys say "Our DIY Roof Cleaner usually works, but for a really dirty roof like yours, you need to see Chris from Apple Roof Cleaning"
I've not yet got into the roof cleaning as of yet(I"M GOING TO THOUGH).I've been in the roofing and remodeling though for about 21yrs and I usually tell the customer when I get done ,that if they get the word out about the quality of my work(thank God I'm a perfectionist..lol) that they can make a few bucks for referring me.I usually give them 10% if I get the jobs they referred me to.It drives them to drive you because they know they're getting a few $s in their pockets as well.I just figure it in on the bid so no loss on my part.So far it's worked well
