Help with pump & sprayer set-up.

Hi Guys,

Have learned alot so far on this board. Thanks for all the information.

I am starting to put together my system. Its what I can afford to start, will upgrade when I can. I have a Surflo 2.8gpm 45 psi. My questions are:

1. If my pump has 1/2 ports, should I use 1/2 line to draw from chem tank?

2. I plan on using standard garden hose to begin with to put chem on roof. I have a 1/2 hose( about 2 ft) coming off the pump and will attach garden hose via 1/2 barb to 3/4 male adapter. Is this a good set-up?

3. Should I go with 3/4 poly ball valve with different spray tips or industrial hose end nozzle (possibly with adapter for tips)

Thanks for any input.

I would use 3/4-1" draw tube, but no less than 1/2 will be fine.

I would attach the hose directly to the pump with a regular garden hose fitting. less clamped connections the better.

3/4 pvc valve and PW quick connect tip holder.

Thanks for finally writing a post!! I see you have done some homewrok since July. Please continue to read as all this stuff has been addressed before and there is good info on spray guns if you look for it.

Keep us updated and good luck!!

Thanks for the info. Trying not to ask questions unless I cant find the answers. Hopefully I can get a couple jobs in this season and go balls out next spring.

Can't ever go wrong with Bill.  I agree.  Less connections when first starting off, less to go wrong. Go with the 3/4 ball valve and QC PW tips.  By extra tips (the stainless ones will rust out VERY quick if you use those).  Upgrade pump later and go with 3/4" hose next if you can justify it - 200' for chem and 100' for groundsman.

BEST OF LUCK!

Thanks again.
I am returning 90% of the fittings I thought I was going to use to Lowes and getting the proper items.
Still trying to source some SH up this way. Best price so far $4.60 gallon! Uggghhhh.
Found someone to trade Werner 24' extension ladder for my old Craftsman 10" radial saw. Nice.

Use 3/4 to 1" for your draw , my fatboy ports are also 1/2" and I use 3/4 also get 3/4 hose if you can, you want that flow. you never mentioned what tips or nozzels you are using..  I myself love the 3/4 ball but their is many options, price wise you cant beat it

Good call on the stainless Steve. Try and use all brass and PVC, no black pipe or copper.

Damn.
I went out today and got 1/2 stuff for my draw, but Ill just return it and switch to 3/4.
I did get a 3/4 poly valve and all the fittings.
I rigged it up for 1/4 quick connect tip.
Gonna get the holder for 3 different tips.
I was staring at the shelves for half an our trying to think out the ball valve sprayer and I ended up with 3 or 4 extra pieces I didnt need. Im becoming a daily event at the returns line at Lowes.

All brass & pvc anyway.
