I was wondering what you guys recommend for disposal of leftover LOVE. I have used the search feature and plugged in any key word that I could think of and I didn't see anything, so please forgive me if this has already been talked about. I did read a thread about using leftovers for cleaning houses, but if I don't have a house to clean what is the recommended disposal method. Any info would be great.
AT first I thought you were talking about product recovered from the downspouts. But it sounds as though you're talking about unused product left in the tank?? Just let it in there for the next job,...the traditional mix will be stable for a couple of weeks, if kept from direct sunlight.
And although the basic dish soap will begin degrading the hypo,..you should still be ok. There are a lot of variables to roof cleaning, and strength of product can have variances,...something you will learn as time goes by. Things like temperature, pitch and degree of infestation would be the main contributors to the different scenarios.
I personally wouldn't recommend using the roof mix as a house wash. It will work, but the TSP in the mix can be a real pain to get off it it dries without proper rinsing,...especially on glass. Not that hard to mix up a proper house wash mix.
Jeff just pretty much said it all. Only difference with me is that I don't use TSP in my Roof Cleaning mix and therfore I'm able to use it for DS'ing when Pressure Washing. I've never gotten rid of any Roof Cleaning mix in all the years I've been doing this. I just add to it.
Sorry for not specifying. Yes, I did mean leftover mix in the tank.
I wasn't sure what the "shelf life" is to the mix. Roof cleaning from what I have found is completely unheard of in my area, so I figured there will probably be time in between jobs where I might have some left in the tank for a little while.
It won't take long for you to realize how much mix you need on a roof when you go to do it. Do your first roof with a 20 to 40 gallon mix, you can always make more if you need it.
If I do have left overs I use it to clean concrete, normally on the home of the roof I have just cleaned. I get some run off from the garages onto the driveways and it leaves a bright white clean line. It doesn't take me much time to treat the rest and run my surface cleaner over it. I try to up sell it before I clean the roof but usually end up doing it anyhow cause I don't want to leave a property with clean streaks on the drive when at the end of the day I can make it look good and make a customer happy...especially when they get the job included for free.

Ok Pat heres what i do with the left over in the tank , if i know its going to sit more than 2 days i take a skimmer basket that you use in a swimming pool and put 1 or 2 3" chlorine tabs in it and put it in the tank ,keeps it like new, i leave it in there even when i refill the tank
What I have done is walk the neighbor hood Im in and offer a quick house wash, usually just the north side for $125.oo.. I have done this a few times telling the home owner that Im in the area and have some left over mix and will give them a great deal if they let me do it today, Believe it or not , I have made a few hundred extra in a day doing this... other wise I just use it for my next mix.. Just a thought

Vinny, You may want to be careful with the tablets. I know they are very acidic! I don't know how much that will effect your mix. I guess it would depend on how much was put in and how much liquid it was added to. You could have some problems with a really low PH level.
I'm no chemist, but I would keep an eye on the long term effects of that stuff.
Here is some info on trichloro-s-triazinetrione. That is the active ingredient in most tablets that you put in a skimmer.
Trichlor is designed for the cooler water of swimming pools and contains the highest percentage (90%) of available chlorine of all the different chlorine compounds. Trichlor should never be used in a spa as the high temperatures will cause it to dissolve very quickly. Available as a l-inch tablet, 3-inch tablet, a stick or a cartridge, it has a long shelf life, and it is very slow dissolving in cool water. This allows it to work extremely well in swimming pool floaters and erosion-type feeders.
Trichlor has a very low pH of 2.9 and requires frequent monitoring and adjustment of pH to prevent damage to equipment and other metal parts. Neutralizing the pH requires approximately 1 part soda ash per 4 parts trichlor.
Trichlor is produced by drying and cooling the sodium salt of cyanuric acid in the presence of chlorine gas. The resulting compound provides 90% available chlorine.

Here's a funny short story:
The other day I was reading and posting to the post "Love on a boat".... well, my wife happened to look over my shoulder and saw the title of the post and asked me what I was doing. I just started laughing because I knew exactly what she was thinking. Even after I explained, she wasn't laughing.

Roflmao!
Okay... Since Jeff mentioned it, I'll ask.
What do you guys do with the run off from a bagged gutter?
I put mine into a couple of 5 gallon buckets today. I've got just over 10 gallons total. I wouldn't dare run this through my pump.
I won't just dump it on the ground somewhere. I'm not really wanting to pay to dispose of it either.
Suggestions?

Matthew, Make yourself a funnel that has some sort of filtering device in it. I use "Gutter Stuff" brand gutter filter. It strains out any debris from the mix and saves you money on chemicals. Those 10 gallons should be mixed right back into your tank. I have been doing it for a couple of years now and it makes disposal hassle free.
Don't let anyone tell you that the runoff is too weak to use again. The reason I started recycling my runoff was because I ran out of mix one time on a very steep roof where I didn't use near enough Dawn. I had far too much runoff and I was a long way from more chemical. I only needed about 10 gallons of mix to finish so I decided that I would take my runoff bags and dump them back into my mix tank. I had about 12 gallons of runoff and was able to finish the job. The runoff worked almost as quickly as the original mix. It saved me a ton of travel time and aggravation.
After that incident, I made my little recycling system. You have to dump the runoff somewhere. Why not dump it right back into the tank. No disposal issues and savings in chemical costs. It is a routine for my guys now. They take the runoff bags and put them right into 5 gallon buckets and them dump them into the tank. You are not tripping over full buckets of runoff and you can proudly tell your customers that you "recycle" your mix
Brian
