How Long Does Moss or Lichen Last After You Spray ?

Sometimes about two to three days in the hot sun for it to completely die. It has to die so applicate well! Then you just pray for the Mother Of All Thunder Storms. A good hard rain Storm!!!!!!

Point Of Order as I did a roof last year that was on a two story home. This roof had been neglected for many many years. There is really no way to say how long it will take for the ugly stuff to naturally release and when the next thunder storm will come through.

I actually went back and applicated parts of this roof three different times and charged every time. $875.00. $150.00 $150.00. $150.00 Service Call. Don't Punish yourself because the clients roof is such terible shape.
You can save the roof but it will take some time!

On the front end I let the client know just how bad his roof was infected...
Here is the analogy I used....
" Your roof has Leukemia! I am coming to give it a Kemo Therapy Treatment!"

In some cases it may take more than one service call. More than one application!
More than one trip! You can't fool Mother Nature and you do not do Miricals!
It is what it is and it will take some added time and professional effort.

The client must understand this on the front end! You have SHC!
Nothing different from your competition. You can only do what you can do.

Only God Can Make Tree! It will just take some time in such extream cases.!

Look you didn't grow the algae on the roof! You are not the one who ignored the roof and failed to maintain and keep it free from roof algae! It took 15 years of growth to get this bad and it will more than likely take more than one treatment to effectively eradicate all of this algae on the roof in question.

After the process steps are complete can you offer the a Warranty!
(3 year algae stain warranty)

Only in some really bad cases is this issue and issue.
Most roofs are a simple breeze!

When this situation comes into play...
You have to let your client know just how terribly bad his roof is infected and just like Cancer it will take effort. patience and time to completely restore his roof to its original natural beauty.

Or he can buy a brand new roof...

Your customer must know this on the front end in such extream cases! You are not Jesus Christ and water into wine is not your deal. You can save the roof in question but it will take time and patience and more than likely more than one application...

Just like the good doctor. It will take more than one Kemo Therapy Treatment to save the Cancer patient and in extream cases more than one treatment to completely restore this roof! BUT IT CAN BE SAVED AND YOU CAN DO IT WITH SUCESS!

Geese please be confident because the client can tell just by your tone of voice how confident you are or that you are just babling on and really are not confident at all!

You have the skill set to do this! The client must know this and that at the end of the processes / treatment that his roof will look great and he will never have to worry about his roof getting this bad again Thanks To You And Your Professional Knowledge In The Industry!

Vinny I had a roof recently that had some lichen and I pointed it out to the customer after it was sprayed and showed him that it had turned white and discussed how rain will remove it. Now this was not a bad infestation just a few dozen spots over approximately 9 square feet of roof. After 1 thunderstorm it was gone.

Here in TN we tend to get gully washers instead of the steady rain fall in other parts of the country. I have yet to run into moss so I can't speak to that.

Maybe one of the members from the Pacific NW can speak up on the moss and lichen better as I know the infestations there are probably the worst in the country and they get the steady rains.

I think someone from the Seattle-Tacoma area was running a test on a shed to test the time it took to disappear. Sorry I can remember your avatar but not your name at the moment.

My customers are advised that in cases where the moss or lichens
have benn there for a while that discoloration due to the damage caused by the moss and lichens will exist. Let them know upfront and they see the actual sdamage caused.

Jim , thanks for the answer, i don't need to reapply because its dead when i leave the day i spray the love, i know it takes time to be gone i was just asking what time frame others were experienceing before it was completly gone, and for the newbies to let the customer know it will take time

I cleaned a roof about 2 months ago that had some fairly bad moss on part of it. I let them know that it would take time and gave the moss a good bath with the cider. I checked back about a month ago and it was still there so I went back and hit it again. Its time I check it out. Weve been short on rain here the last month so Ive considered (if its still there) sitting on the ridge and rinsing with a open water hose. Does anyone else do this? This roof is a good hour and fifteen minute drive for me so the fewer trips the better.

confuse Chris , i would not keep going back as long as you told them it will take several weeks, after that if they call i would stop by and reapply if needed .if its brown or white its dead ,they lived with the green stuff for years . thats why i posted this so we all remember to tell customers it may take awhile . i did one were it was 2 1/2 to 3 "thick in an area of about 100sqft about 8 weeks ago and its almost gone maybe 10% left

I tell them up to 3 months but usually faster weather dependent. Most of my roofs have some moss or lichen and some are bad with it. It all fell off during the heavy rain we had here for a few weeks.

I find it takes about 3-5 weeks to totally come off. I recently did a job (2 weeks ago) that had mos and lichen on the north side. I went by today and its all gone clean as a whistle. We been getting some heavy thunderstorms so I think that definetly played a role in the speed of the removal.

I think 3 months is a good call , this way if its gone before 3 the customer is happy and if theres still a little left at 3 months they know its going away

What if you get the mother of all storms 5 to 6 hours you sprayed. Will the lichens had time to die if it wasn't bad?

5 or 6 hours is plenty of dwell time to kill it, I have done a few were this happened and it is fine.

When the customer asks how long will the cleaning last. I ask them how long did it take to get that way? The answer is always over 2 years. So I suppose I could give a 2 year guarantee!
