Thanks Charles. When I was looking into it I was told that the only real differance between 1/2 inch and 5/8ths was 2 feet of distance on the spray..
I will go search that thread now..
NOT True, you lose plenty of pressure and flow, a Delavan equipped with 300 feet of 1/2 inch hose will not shoot as far, nor will it spray as fast as one with 5/8 hose. This is a LIE told by certain distributors of Roof Cleaning Equipment who simply do not want to carry the larger and better 5/8 hose, and the fittings and reels to hold it. Think of a pump as a guy walking up a hill with 100 lbs on his back ? If we take 50 lbs off his back, walking up the hill is easier on his body, and he can do it faster.
OK guys, Now I'm a little worried as well. We are adding roof cleaning to our services and just got our Fatboy, battery boxes and 1/2 hose from Bob. Is the 1/2 inch workable? I have also seen some comments regarding making your own ball valve wand as opposed to the setup I bought. Should I search it on the forums here and build my own?
Make a ball valve sprayer and see which you prefer. Then just use the one you like the best, and keep the other on the truck in case one breaks. The trigger wands last for a few months, so it would be good to have a back up.

You need to read the thread about the pump boxes getting to hot, I just got the same set-up as you and will do the following before I fire it up:
Cut some more vents in the box
Plumb a 3/4 hose from the tank to the pump to "flood" it.
Let me know if you have any issues, $ 656.00 was my price, plus shipping.

Great advise, I went to HD and picked up a 3/4 ball valve and parts, I think everything was $13.00 or more.

You're fine. The 1/2" set up works great. Been using it for a year and a half. The ball valve will make your life 100% easier.
Hello new guy here from Texas. I have about 19 to 23 hours worth of reading on this site. I curantly do soda blasting, work has been kind of slow so I want to get into roof cleaning. I use to do pressure washing a few years ago I still have a good pressure washer but I think I need to get a heater for hot water. I just finished building my trailer. I still have my 150 gal. tank from a few years ago and am about to mount it to my trailer. I know that 150 gal. is kind of small but I also have two 55 gal. drums that I can use. I plan on calling Lori in a few days and geting the fat boy along with a back up pump. I heard some of you like the 3/4 hose I just wanted to know is that i.d. or o.d. I have alot of air hose that I can use I have more than two hundred ft. of both 1/2 i.d. or 3/4 i.d. either one I can put the right fitings. What is the name brand of the red hose I see in a lot of pics. Any info would be a big help thanks.
Hey Jetstream, sorry I missed your post. Use the larger 3/4 hose you have. The name of the roof cleaning hose is called Kuri Tec. Lori carries it, at great prices.

Thanks,
Found the detailed parts list for the ball valve so I will build a couple and go from there. Since I already hav the 200' of 1/2 inch kuri tek I was wondering if I should try different nozzles. I have 40's now and am curious if I should have 50's or 60's. Will that make a difference with the 1/2 inch hose?
Yes it will. i use 40's but only because ive been too lazy to buy bigger ones. It would be good to have the 4 banger, with a set of 40's and 50's to control the runoff.
Ive been using the fatboy for a little over a year, I draw from the tank with 1" pvc reduced to 3/4 then spray with 3/4 hose and 3/4 ball valve in a 0060 and 0050 remember guys the fatboy likes eveything big... Im getting some 0070 nozzels next, hope this helps

Have you been using the same Fatboy for a year? How many roofs have you done with it? I keep reading that they don't last. What are you doing to keep it going for so long? Could you post a pic of how you have the 1" pvc ran? Thanks

I use a basic setup, 1" pvc pulling from the top , i have it where I can take it out and transfer chemical to the tank if need be , so its not plumb solid , the 1" is attached to a 3/4 flexiable hose then reduces to the 1/2 on the pump. then on the out side its the 1/2 inch nipple connected to 3/4 " quick connect with 200 ft of hose, basic setup nothng fancy.. I don't have any idea how many roofs , its on it 2 nd yr with us , i keep it flushed after each use have not had any problems as of yet . I would say 100 or so roofs.

Well if your getting 100+ roofs from a pump that only cost a couple hunderd then thats not bad at all. I was under the impression that them pumps would not hold up. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Which one the 5850 or the fat boy will spray farther. Just trying to figure out which will get the job done on those steep big jobs that have to be done from the ladder.

Bob from Ptek told me the 5850 goes about 25ft and the fat boy about 40. I took the 5850 for starters.
