Postcards?

Is anyone using or having any luck with post cards?
My strategy so far has been...

Newspaper adds(ive been glad that theyve paid for themselves)

Flyers

Door hanging

Door Knocking (same neighborhoods that I hung week or so later)

Website (bang my head on that wall everyday but It has THE BEST POTENTIAL)

This is working for me BUT It could be a lot better...... I want to target selected areas (upper end, golf course, and such) I hope the more I get my name and website in front of people the more people I will get a chance to stand in front of and sell.......

BOTTOM LINE I can only knock on so many doors or hang so many hangers a day!

I put out 250 yesterday. I think I walked 8-10 miles  ouch

I was just wondering what kind of success yall have had with post cards.

Food For Thought?

Try local cable channel ads, for 500-700 monthly you will get a lot of exposure.

Then be in the local thrifty front page.

Then , along with door hangers like KBK does them, BRIGHT and BOLD and with a message that stands out and a CALL to ACTION that is catchy and IMMEDIATE.

Then full color business cards and get 5000 from Monsters Co. for like 100.00 and leave everywhere in stacks of 3-5 cards or more.

Letter your vehicle with a nice graphic and big number and slogan.

Also, yard signs. Lots of them all over.

You gotta spend some money to get the word out for the first 2 years minimum.

30% of your money should go back into business building (advertising) for the first 3 years.

Then reduce by 10% for the next 1-2 years then 10% per year on going?

Thanks for the tips Dave.

Its like that saying "youve got to spend money to make money"

Ive got the business cards, hangers, yard signs, trailer signs and such.
Not to say that they cant be improved on. The trailer signs cost 200 and pulled 900 worth of work the first day I was on the job with them.

A lot of this is trial and error but its great to have a place where you can learn from others experiences.

I live in a town of 3500 people. I can drive 45 minutes north, east, or west to towns of 35000 to 180000.... Thats where I go. FOLKS around here are VERY cheap...

So what Im looking into is something to supplement my doorhanging/knocking. Im not looking to send them out so i can sit at home and watch tv. Im looking for a boost sadly I can only knock on so many doors.

I am thinking about a 5k mailer campaign

1000 at a time to the same area (upscale golf course communities)

The same areas that I am hanging/knocking/doing demos/ SOON TO BE JOBS

This process is still all in my mind....

There are many details and questions to work out

design the card
get the lists
is 5k to much
or too little
is 5 mailings enough
or probably just a beginning?
how far apart to mail
and everything else i havent thought of yet lol

When I drive through these neighborhoods and see lawn care guys. pool guys, painters, dry cleaning delivery bags...... and DIRTY ROOFS

Things are slow here right now But i feel like somethings going to change... and Im going to do my best to change it.

Thanks for all input guys.

I use flyers and yard signs.

I Went out today in my neighborhood and handed out 30 flyers. I qouted one roof and got it and also qouted a house and deck and got that too.

all in all it cost me maybe $2.00 in flyers and 30 minutes of walking and i signed about $1500.00 worth of work for this week.

I think if you personally hand out flyers in a devolpment, try and do it on the weekend when people are home and outside. It gives more opportunity to interact and sell your self.

good luck to you chris.

I spend A LOT of time with doorhangers and flyers........ They do work but are very low return. Knocking on doors and interacting with people has probably been my best return but I can only knock on so many doors. Im looking for another boost.

Right now ill doorhang a neighborhood then the next week ill knock on doors and offer demonstrations.

The one catch is in Some neighborhoods im trying to target people just dont answer doors.....

Get yourself MAGNETS made in FULL COLOR. You can get them with a calender on them for next year and start handing them out NOW. They will stay on the fridge for a entire year!

Or offer a special or coupon or several redeemable coupons, good thru out the year and each dated specifically for spring, summer fall.

Also, make yourself indispensable. Offer propety owners tips on other areas you see that you may have expertise in.

Get business cards of all other local trades in your area.

Develop a referral network. On hand washes the other. Help your fellow tradesman get work and then help them again, they will come around and help you.

Give other tradesmen your cards, get their cards, network, network.

Go to your local chamber and at the next chamber mixer give a presentation.

Offer to do a charity roof for the Ronald McDonald house in your area.

Go hire some recovering alchoholics that are sober and want a second chance and that look healthy and give them an opportunity to make a buck and help give them a leg up. Allow them  to stick magnets on every metal door in your area.

Get involved with your local rotary club, sports club, network on the golf course.

Make up cards with 100 dollars bills miniturized and changed so you don't get into trouble on one side of the cards and on the other put a really nice "before and after".

Offer a discount or a MASSIVE call to action then stick these everywhere you can put your cards out.

5k cards in FULL COLOR cost just  $149.00 and that means put them anywhere you can and work will come. At 0.149 cents per card, People see the money on the one side of the card and out of curiousity will check out your card.

Just some of many ideas to boost your bottom line.

Hope this helps you and others,

Best,

David- Roof Clean USA

To Advertise or Not to Advertise: Marketing is the Answer

week4-body.jpg
Have you ever heard the saying, "I know that I waste half of my advertising budget. The problem is I don't know which half!" It is this very philosophy that is prompting me to strongly inform you... advertising doesn't work!

Let me show you why:

  • There is no way to track effectiveness (or ineffectiveness)
  • It's impersonal
  • The target audience is too large
  • It's costly to redo or improve
  • There is no call to action

What surprises me is the number of small business owners that save their marketing dollars just to waste them on ineffective advertising. Then, they complain because nothing is working and they don't have any customers.

I know what you're thinking, "Isn't advertising and marketing the same thing?" Well, not really. Let me explain the differences. Advertising includes: commercials, billboards, radio, and newspapers. Marketing includes: emails, letters, postcards, and fax.

So how is follow-up marketing better than advertising?

  • You can track response rates
  • You can quickly change campaigns that aren't working
  • You can specifically target your audience
  • It leads prospects to an immediate sell

If you really want to attract more customers, you will learn to market and leave the advertising to those gazillion dollar companies.

Sincerely,

I have used door hangers,  And ads in the local newspapers.  It's been slow this year however I have always had a good response from the yard sign I place where I'm cleaning a roof.  Also a little door knocking around the area you are working has always worked for me.
