Has anyone ever tried a referral program? My wife works as a finance manager at a car dealership and they give everyone that refers a new customer $50.00 as a referral fee after they buy the new car. It works quite well at the dealership. I know the guys that are well established don't really need a program such as this, but it my be helpful if you are just starting out. I just started doing it with my customers and I have received referrals at a much faster rate.
Has anyone else ever tried this and had any luck? Thoughts? Comments?

I started out this year giving my customers 20 dollar referral cards. Most of them have said no you dont have to do that well be glad to tell our friends and family about you......
Try it wih other contractors you meet. I treat then like sales reps. 3-5% for a referall 8-10% for a pre sold job lined up by my special price sheet for sales reps. I just received a referall from this today, for a very very large brick cleaning job. I will see it tomarrow. The friend that referred it is doing an $80K tuk point job at the location in question.

You have to be carefull of who you get to do flyers. I own rental property and have thrown out a lot of flyers that the tenents left behind. I'm sure someone paid them an hourly or flat rate to pass them out.

For flyers, I give them an hourly rate and make them write down were they went and when. This makes it harder for them to lie and easier to check were they put them. We really like pull tab bulletins in liquor stores, gas stations, grocery stores etc... They seem to last awhile and hit many people, as well it is very easy to check and see if they were put up, and the list of were they went can then be repeated, ruleing out the places that won't allow them to be posted. I will post a pic of one soon, can't seem to get the word doc to load here.
Get up in the morning and work 10 hours. Go home and take a shower then go hand out flyers or doorhangers. Or hand out business cards and do demos. If you do it yourself you know exactly where its going!
Sounds like you had a rough day brother. I like those pull tabs because they are fast and seem to have some longevity. (seems grocery stores last the longest, here anyway) We all do it too man, I know it can suck. Try and stay positive Bro
Smile and wave at those customers. I nod alot, helps me stay positive and I find they nod too. Then we are both standing there nodding at each other and it looks hilarious. When I go out for sale I do my best to treat these experiences like it's just one big fun time meeting people. I try to stay casual, but still proffesional.
Nod and talk, smile and wave. It kinda becomes your new after work hobby.
Hope you get some rest bro. Good luck tommorow.

No Bill not too bad of a day! What i meant was that I am leary of letting someone whos not me promote me....... What if the potential customer is rude and my guy lets em have it hahaha! Its not that i would blame them lol but it wouldnt look good.
We had our first saturday that wasnt rainsoaked in a month here today (it was only cloudy with scattered tstorms). I gave 7 estimates and sold 1 job on the spot. I expect to pick up 2 or 3 more of those.
The GOOD news is... No rain in the forcast for a week! (weve had over 12 inches in 2 weeks)
I plan to keep after residential customers on Saturdays. During the week i am going to target business such as doctors offices, churches, and anyone else who may need a roof cleaning.
Up until 2 weeks ago I was staying booked a week out. All this rained drenched my appt book. Now its time to dry it off and go kick some tail!
I hear ya there about the rain. It`s been nonstop in KY for weeks.Got 2 jobs lined up for Monday then it`s off to door to door in the evenings when people are at home.
When I was a kid, my dad sold life insurance. We would go hunting and fishing and golfing during the days, then in the evening he would go to work. It is always better to go to a house and talk to someone than just leave a flyer at an empty house. A very successful realtor friend of mine hands a business card to nearly everyone he meets, checkers at stores, waitresses at restaurants, etc. You never know where they will end up.

One business card handed out yesterday led to call today and $1200 job for tuesday. Wouldnt it be nice to have a few of them a week! lol Thats the thing that keeps me going.. you never know which one of those 10 cent cards, flyers, or doorhangers is worth a few hundred or more.
I went to a indoor yard sale this weekend and I will probably get one job at least out of this. Cost was $10 for the table. Customer stated they had just gotten a quote for 4k to replace their roof. Wanna guess why they were replacing it? Yep black streaks. We will see how this goes.
Generated lots of interest. Did the same thing today at a flea market. Same price for the table. Main interest was from a guy with rental properties and a guy that had to deal with his mother's estate. Lots of flyers handed out and lots of pitches and a several demos set up.
Actually had a guy tell me he would not need my services because he just put a new roof on and got better shingles and had a roofer that knew what he was doing and put in extra attic ventalation. I think I will be hearing from him a few years down the road.
By the way don't you all hate hail damage? Nearly new roof getting replaced and now I have to wait to clean until the algae free part wears off and the shingles get dirty.
Gotta go clean some before the next hail storm...LOL
I have kids after school putting flyers out everyday. I have about 50 neighborhoods within 5 miles of my home. I also hand out one business card a day allmost every day of my life. I am not in the roof cleaning business yet, but will soon. Go to realtors and tell them what you do. That should make a huge difference. Good luck. Jeff

Same here. It seems we live in tornado alley around here. Everytime a tornado comes through Tennessee it seems to go through Jackson. But there are several sections that haven't been hit yet. I am wondering if some people here will be hesitant about cleaning their roof because they figure they will get a new one next tornado season. lol

For my gutter cleaning customers i give out a 10% referral that is gives them and the person they referred 10% off. I also have one lady that has a very small house and told her if she got me 4 referrals she would get her next cleaning for free, she has already received her spring cleaning free and working on Fall (6 so far) not sure how this will translate to roof cleaning but works well for gutter cleaning
