Greetings Dave and All Fellow Roof Cleaning Experts.
#1. I moved this from a reply to a post. Hope that is OK?
Upps! Just saw your reply Chris. Now I have two.. I Appologize!
I have been here to the RCIA site twice now and tonight I registered. Lots of great information. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. Fianaly a place just for roof cleaning contactors and pros.
My name is James Vinson and I live and work in Memphis, TN. For 17 years I pressured cleaned everything... Except roofs namely because I am not nor claim to be Spider Man. For 8 1/2 years now I have been useing an application process that 90% of the time does not require me to even get on a roof period. I am very excited and happy about this aspect of my cleaning process but for the other 10% of the time I can become a monkey for two reasons.
1. Less ladder moves 2. If the roof is an easy walker or if I can applicate 3/3's of a roof even a tall one from the top in half the time then the monkey part of myself over rides the chicken part an up I go! LOL
There is one item of note that I do not skimp on. Not one Iota! Protection of all plants, bushes and vegitation to include flowers, bushes and trees. Heaven forbid I would have to buy them... I won't go into detail but about 9 years ago when I was first starting out... Well, I call it the "American Boxwood Incident." 4 to be exact about $180.00 a pop. Cost me a fortune but I learned a hard lesson. Pre Water, Cover and Protect! On a hot 92F code orange type day always remember that underneith that tarp is like a pressure cooker and your plant life can and will cook...!
Now Dear Old Dad taught me many valuable lessons in life. One was this,"Those who forget their history are bound to end up repeating it." I finally got the message!!! DUUU
Today I can honestly say that I am quite knowledgeable and have this process down to a science. Haven't killed anything in about seven years straight! On the other hand I can't seem to find anyone in this city who really wants to work so I am the labor, sales, accounting, quality control, customer service. The whole smoooohhhh! I am so under staffed and it is costing me dollars. Anyone out there interested in partnering up and helping take the Memphis Market Share?
Here is the problem with Memphis. I used to think there was something in the water that made people ignorant because apprently most people in Memphis know everything about evrything... Not! Basically you have to play the game. I purchased a book at Kinko's last week called, "The Power Of Nice." You really have to take it to a higher level here but it really works out to the best... You can snap #2 pencils in the company vehicle and back at the office but in front of the customer be sweet no matter what! Just get the sale... BEEEE Nice!
The market is pretty well wide open here in Memphis on one point but on the other most people here are ignorant to the facts. What is growing on their roof, how damageing it is, what to do about it and who to call. 60 bottles of Clorox won't get it! A pressure Cleaner Surely won't get it! Clorox is what you buy at the Kroger to do your laundry! Not your roof. You can try but good luck!
I will close with this statement that I believe to be completely true!
Thr right marketing for Memphis, re education and awareness of the facts about roof algae and all of its harmful aspects. Getting this information on a broad spectrum out to the public is the key to taking and controling the Memphis Market. Again it is wide open ready for the taking! From having a good internet presence, a great web site, (which mine is lacking that polish and luster I do admit) to mass quality exposure in this crazy market capital high income city. The market share is un tapped and ready for the taking. There are a few stupid problems that make it all the harder here. Rookies and rip off artist are abound so people here are so in shock and afraid to trust anyone. Even the good guys like my company just because they have been scammed so many times before....
So another issue to the puzzle is Image. You really do not have to be real clear.. Really! You just have to look like a shinny diamond.... Work really hard to establish some type of positive relationship and trust between the client and your company. So Memphis service companies have an image problem... Over come all of the negatives, Proper Advertizing, Image, Re Education and Memphis Market share is ripe for the taking. Look I do not even carry a pressure cleaner on my van and do not offer janitorial sevices. People still call me a pressure cleaner and think of any type of cleaning company as a janitorial service. Yikes! Please! Will the real roof cleaner please stand up!
Thanks Dave for the SEO information and I will sure research and use it further .
