Giving Prospective Customers easy, visually effective DEMO's is one KEY INGREDIENT, at least from Roof Clean USA's prospective, to a successful roof cleaning career AND has been shown to work in other parts of the USA from personally speaking to and hearing testimonials from Other Roof Cleaners across America
Question: Does anyone in business with EXPERIENCE of this on the RCIA want to VISUALLY give an EXAMPLE on how to do a proper demonstration of a roof being "SPOT" cleaned so the newbie or student can get a better sense of how to do this easily and effectively.
I am so strapped for time now and have a variety of commitments besides cleaning customers roofs that I cannot get the video camera out and dedicate time to do this, but if anyone can video or take pictures of the process it would go a long way to showing others how easy this is to actually do.
For us here at Roof Clean USA, this is ONE way, of SEVERAL, that we use to GENERATE interest in Non Pressure / Low Pressure Roof Cleaning in an area.
First of All, we LIKE to use a dedicated SOLO Backup sprayer (4 gallon Model-NOTE: only fill with a gallon or so of roof cleaning solution for DEMO purposes for portability and safety) that we changed out to Viton Seals and that is our roof cleaning demo pack.
We then, pick an area of the roof most affected with black streaks and algae and that is easiest to get to. We tarp a small area, when or if appropriate and possibly wet the landscape as well, depending on location, time of day, sensitive plants or pets, etc.
Then, we climb up on the ladder with the proper ladder stand off to protect gutters from bends or damage and use proper eye and respiratory protection.
Using the Backpack Pump up Sprayer at a 50/50, 60/40 or 70/30 Apple Sauce Roof Cleaning Mixture (depending on severity of Algae Base), we then spray a portion of the Asphalt Shingle in a obvious area loaded up with GM (Gloeocapsa Magma Algae) and let the chemicals do the work.
It's like Show And Tell....Like Magic, the stains dissapear (mostly, anyway, just from the chemical solution)!
In about 10-15 min. we rinse that portion from the ground with a garden hose for FULL EFFECT, and, Voila' , instant BEFORE and AFTER roof cleaning right before the skeptical customers eyes.
Note:
We usually mix a stronger concentration in the Backpack sprayer so the EFFECT is QUICK and DRAMATIC.
It is ALWAYS advisable to FIRST use the FRESHEST SHC that you can so it is a "NO Muss, NO Fuss" DEMO with no excuse to the prospective customer later, (after waiting 10-15 minutes) as to why the first coat didn't give maximum result.
The rinse for the specific area allows the treated roof to be "Night and Day" and ends in a scheduled or immediate roof cleaning.
On average, if you can do 10- 20 of these DEMO's on a Saturday in various neighborhoods you can expect to see 1-to-3 and possibly MORE jobs come as a IMMEDIATE result if presented properly, and thenm others later as the EFFECT has time to REGISTER with the H.O. unless you are overpriced or in a severly low income area of the country.
Some people (actually, MOST perople) are # of times people. In other words, they nedd to be SHOWN or convinced of something MULTIPLE TIMES in order fro them to be propelled OVER the "tipping point" in the sales conversion process.
Her are some ADDITIONAL pointers: Always have on a clean company (silkscreened or embroidered) shirt, clean shoes, have any facial hair such as a beard or mustache well trimmed or clean shaven, make sure hands are clean, and have all backup supporting marketing materials, pics and proof of past work, letters of recommendation/ testimonials ready to show and verify with the customer. DURING the job, SPECIFIC "Roof Cleaning In PROGRESS" sign are SMART MARKETING and posting an VERY CONSPICUOUSLY during Cleaning is Always a good idea.
AFTER the Job , yard signs with your company LOGO and Phone number with the words, " Safe, No Pressure or NON Pressure Roof Cleaning in the BODY of the YArd sign copy is advisable.
Also leave 3-5 of YOUR Business cards with EVERY Completed Roof Cleaning job, so, the customer can sell his/her friends on your professionalism and Roof Cleaning expertise.
Hope this helps.

Thanks David, and sorry I missed your call the other day. We just got rained out about two hours ago, so the demo vid is postponed. I will, however have it up by Monday.

Hello Kevin,
Sorry to hear about your rainout. Bummer. Oh well, happens to us all :)
I look forward to chatting with you briefly one day soon.
Looking forward to what you put together in terms of customer demo's.
If you edit it right it will ALSO serve you well on YOU TUBE with a link from here to there and back to the RCIA.
Cool idea Kevin.I look forward to seeing it also. I got in touch with Keith from KBK. He is working on a logo for me I will post it when it`s finalized to show what work he does. Thanks for the help on the website. Type in Algae-Free Roof Cleaning of Bowling Green Kentucky on google & it`s the 1st to come up. Did you see about getting your SHC from univar yet? 1.68 a gallon delivered to Bowling Green aint to shabby. Kipp
Thanks for that info on proper demo presentation. I was just thinking about that yesterday glad to see that the question and answer have already been discussed. Also is there any news about that demo video and where the link may be?
Great idea especially in the Central Florida area.. Ocala especially! Just branched up this way from South Florida and finding closing sales in Central Florida seems to be tougher than South Florida but I can now offer this to customers for sales pitch ... Thanks again
I'm thinking pretty seriously about approaching a rather large neighborhood in the area and offering a free demo to a few of the HO, not quite sure if I'll be coming on too strong or not but offering a free demo seems to be the best way to crack the seal on such a good number of potential customers. All it takes is one shiny clean roof next door to bring in the neighbors.
I have to wait until spring to do a demo, I had a few ideas of how and were i wanted to do demos but yhis thread gave me more to add to it. Great thread thanks for posting it.
Personally I am going to try this out for sure. Since I am new to this business, once I have gotten my system down I will be giving away probably 3 free roof cleanings. Under the condition that they let me put a job sign in the front of their home for a month or two. The locations will play an important roll obviously, I am going to search out the main streets in my town that would be most advantageous to my company. Great thread!

You should contact all your previous roofing customers, and tell them you are offering roof cleaning.
The pump sprayer is a great idea! I've been shy of doing demos cause of the hassle of mixing up a decent batch, dealing with hose etc. i also like the idea of strategically located freebies with signage. I will put some of this into practice next spring.
@A to Z, I also offer free roof cleanings in those specific neighborhoods where a roof cleaning in return for a yard sign and word-of-mouth advertising helps land several other clients. Very worthwhile.
