Naw, just re side the home right over the old siding, mold and all ! Then sell "rights" to the mushroom Farm ??
After the 2004 hurricanes that blew through here I witnessed countless Kissimmee re-roofs that were put straight on top of the old shingle trapping in all the algae. I wish I had thought of roof cleaning back then!

Does anyone offer gutter cleaning as an additional service? It seems only natural that while your up on the ladder or on the roof you could do this as well. If you do, what do you charge per lin/ft? Thanks, Patrick

I think most of us do gutters as an up sell. The charge depends some do flat rate some per ft. I usually charge $100 flat rate.
Same here I have a flat rate for Roofs ,gutters and house washes... House washes are just easy money when you cut down the left over Love and by the way, the outside of the gutters and sofit is another price all together inside gets thrown in with roof cleaning bid and I always inform them I will knock the price dn if they want to clean the inside of gutters and dn/spouts, have to have that flow.. The size of home and how high I have to go all goes in to effect on that gutter cleaning

I recently took some advice from Bill. By the way thank You Bill. I was trying to make the big bucks on each job. Somtimes when you are spending maybe 40 to 50 dollars on chemicals you can take a job for less than you would expect to make. I'm not saying do the job for nothing. But on Bill's advice I did some door knocking today and landed 3 jobs. I discounted these jobs however after expenses I will still make a decent profit. Once again thanks Bill.

We offer complete exterior cleaning for Residential and commercial applications. Roofs, skylights, solar panels, windows, gutters, house wash, pressure washing etc... It's general curb appeal working with a dozen Realtors and agents. Keeps us busy. In the winter we also clean carpet and upholstery as I am a certified textile cleaner. It's been good for us as during the holidays all my customers are getting their interiors cleaned for the family visits for the holidays. I refuse to hang Christmas lights, I just don't have the patience, so carpet cleaning makes up BIG time for that loss of revenue other companies offer in my industry.
It's not always good to be "the jack of all trades and the master at none"; so I've gone to school for most of my certifications over the years- separating me from some of my competition. In the future, more of my trucks will be geared for each specific service. I expect to see a few copy-cats out here with the down economy and all.

We have a guy here in st louis area on craigslist that says he will do gutters for 34.99 a house no matter what size 1 or 2 story. Don M and I talked yesterday about being underbid by guys doing roofs for half our price. We both have about the same minimum price but are losing jobs because of price. Some of these people think it should be 100 or less for a roof cleaning.
Your going to have to educate your target audience. It's going to cost you in advertising.
Is your $100 dollar roof guy pressure washing?
I just came from measuring a roof that was power washed last spring. HO said it looked like new when the guy was done but it came right back the next spring.
He wanted to know how long my job would last. I explained it all to him and he said OK to spending $360 to let me do it right.
Awesome tips. Multiple streams of income! Your hard work and wisdom will pay off my friend. If only my old man had taught me these concepts I wouldn't have waisted over $75k in schools that taught me nothing!
I may just start that mowing business on the side!

Awesome links, Brian! Can't wait to dig in and learn as I'm getting very frustrated with my Hood Cleaning business! Clients don't appreciate a good hood cleaning because the results are mainly out of sight, but with roof cleaning, the proper way, the results are there for all to see!

This is true! I often find new customers who only want a gutter cleaning service are often looking to wait till the last minute and spend as little as possible on something the hate to do, but don't really care since its out of sight - out of mind?

When pressure cleaning and roof cleaning are slow, the lawn / landscape work picks up. If any of you need a side business to keep you busier in the summer, you might want to consider mowing and landscape maintenance [I have about 28 jobs that I maintain landscapes on and only 8 lawns that I mow at present and that amounts to about $1800.00 a month and maybe 4 - 12 hours a week - depending on the time of year- in labor. Most lawns are like $70 -$100.00 a month year round. I do them 1 time a month Dec,-March and 2 x a month April,May,June & nov. and 3x a month in the rainy season.
Hi Chuck, You mention that the roof cleaning business slows down at certain times that your other businesses pick up. First off, thanks for sharing your tips to keep busy year-round. Could you please tell us how seasonal your roof cleaning work is? When are your busy months, when are your slow months, and how many jobs do you get during each? Do you market differently accordingly? I realize that this is as much based on geography as it is based on season/time of year, but I think we'll all learn a little something about how to plot our businesses.
