Well it was a beautiful day here on Long Island. It gave me the chance to set up my new FatBoy pump and hoses.I tryed the FatBoy with 1/2 inch hose and I did get it to shoot straight up about 25 feet. I then replaced the setup with 3/4 inch hose that Mike Sullivan had recommended. You guys were right, it shot about 4- 5 feet higher with the wider hose, for a total of about 30 feet. My nozzel was the wand that I got last year with the setup from Pressure Tek.Mike Sullivan suggested two nozzels from northern tools, I ordered them, I hope they will give me a couple more feet to the spray. Any thoughts to that?

Yes, you gotta PLAY with nozzles to get peak performance for YOUR system.
The 3/4 inch hose will also give more FLOW, as well as shooting distance, and your pump will work less hard.
As you found out, bigger hose is better, always!

4 to 5 feet better shooting distance may mean the difference between being able to do a roof, or not, especially on windy day biggrin

I don't use the northern fire nozzles that much.

If you're using the gun and nozzles it came with, then I'm going to guess it's a 1/2" poly gun and #40 nozzles, right?

Try a 3/4" PVC ball valve with #50 nozzles and #60 nozzles.  The extra flow from the larger nozzles and the ball valve should give you even more distance.

I buy my large nozzles from:

Yes, the 3/4 ball valve is important for maximum performance of your roof cleaning set up.

Mike you are right about the 1/2 poly gun and nozzle. It hit me as I was reading it,I am losing distance in the 1/2 wand. I ordered the fireman nozzle and the bon -aire nozzle. I will look into tha ball vavle setup. Thanks again.........

Also, try 5/16" barbs. They won't shoot as far as the #50 or #60 nozzles, but they work great for the lower one story roofs to give you extra flow. #70 nozzles are good too. Good flow, and shoots farther than 5/16" barbs.

12V Delavan FATBOY 7gpm
- 3/4" hose & 3/4" PVC ball valve

#50 nozzles
- 4gpm @ 80psi

#60 nozzles- 5gpm @ 60psi

#70 nozzles- 6gpm @ 40psi

Could you guys post a picture of a ball valve and how the connections are made, also what specific type of nozzles are used. I keep seeing #50, #60 and so on, but when I look on the washing websites, I see pressure washing nozzles. which would bring it down to 1/4 inch. I would really like to see an exploded view of a ball valve assembled and apart with details.

Thank you

Mark, unless someone beats me to it, I'll post a few pics tomorrow. And btw, the Nelson fire nozzle from Northern tool is great for rinsing. But nothing beats my $2.40 ball valve!

Here's my valves and nozzles.

Nothing to it.  First fitting at the bottom is a

3/4" Female garden thread with O-ring X 3/4" MIT

3/4" PVC and Banjo poly Ball valves

3/4" x 1/2" Bushing

1/2" x 1/4" Bushing

1/4" Male threaded Stainless steel coupler

Three welded together 1/4" Plugs with female 1/4" threads

1/4" Nozzles - 0060,1560, 3/8" barb

and 0050, 1550, 2550

I ordered #70 nozzles to see how they work.  I'll post my results when they get in.

Envirospec sells the tri-nozzle holders.

Pressuretek sells a four way nozzle holder called the "J-rod"

Just got in my new 0070,1570, 2570 nozzles.

I like the 0070 nozzle.

It is in between a 0060 and a 3/8" barb.

It gives you more flow than the 0060 nozzle, and shoots farther than the 3/8" barb.

Thank you for the pictures, I was wondering if it was necked down to accept those type of fittings. It all makes sense now. I am using 5/8 hose and pumping 10 gallons a minute, I am ordering the hose next week, but I did a test today and the 5/8 ran the best. I was thinking about using a variable twist high flow nozzle as I use it for two applications and holy heck does it shoot far, probably 60ft and you really have to hold on to it.

The reason I am only going 5/8 is my hose reel is 1/2 if I went 3/4 I think it would bog down no matter what until I change the reel. But the thing is it does 10gpm out of one port and I have two more ports I could use. I am not shooting 12.5 out of it.

Mark, what size hose reel swivel do you have?

I have 1/2" hose reels also. The swivels it comes with is also 1/2".

I upgraded my swivel to a 3/4" stainless, it HELPS! The 1/2" swivel is pathetic, the inside diameter is so small it looks closer to 1/4".

I'm not using the 3/4" stainless swivel for my roof reel anymore because it was getting too rusty.

I now use 3/4" banjo poly quick connects. I just disconnect and connect it when needed.

But with your setup, since you are shooting zinc, stainless would probably work well and not rust as bad as bleach.

Bob w/pressuretek might be able to get a better price. These swivels are expensive.

Oh, I forgot to post where I get the #70 nozzles, for those of you with high output pumps, it helps you shoot tons of volume for those easy to reach one story roofs.

7+gpms- FATBOY, UDOR, Yamada NDP-15

http://pressureparts.com/U-Nozzles-C-Nozzles-LowP-SS-Pressure-Products.aspx

I've only found these nozzle in brass.  Largest I have found in stainless are #60 nozzles.

#70's in brass are cheap though, only $2.40

So when they get too rusty just trash and replace.

I just had to buy one after 6 years I had one that broke. I guess I should test it through the reel to make sure it will work. But im sure it will be fine.
