I am having a hard time with the agents getting back to me for a price. Did any of you have a hard time when you first started? Do you all have a preference to which company?
There wasnt really a problem but they had to get back to me several times because no one really knew what was involved in roof cleaning. It was probably a month of going back and forth before they finally felt comfortable enough to go ahead with it.
Joe Walters Insurance did get back to me with a quote. It was less than I was expecting so that is good. I'm still waiting for my local insurance company to call back but I won't wait to long. Un fortunately I can't do any cleaning for awhile because of all the hard white rain around here now.
I just switched over to Joe Walters. Truely the first company I have talked with the understood soup to nuts about exterior cleaning GL exposure. Even saved 200 plus bucks a year.
Ok! here is the deal I have run into... First of all agents are just highly glorified sales people... Just like you except you do not sell insurance...All they really want to do is write insurance...To Big Companies with money! Lots of money! It is a trillion Dollar plus Business, Racket!
You are just a peon when it comes to the agent...
Yes, a green horn will write anything to any one. He needs to show he is a good employ... What you need to do is set an appointment and go see the agent. Sit right there at the desk.. Look him or her right in the eye! What is he going to do throw you out..... If you have the money they will write you insurance... in most cases! Don't play their game. If the mountain won't come to you. Go to the mountain!
Second, don't let the agent write you Liability like he would a roofing company. It will cost you a fortune!!!!!
You are an Specialty Exterior Structure Cleaning Service... (A Pressure Cleaner) Your feet firmly on the GROUND!!!!! Personally about 98% of the time I do not get on the roof! Unless it is and easy walker! Why be a monkey when you do not have to? Thank You Sur Flow Pumps!!!!!
Tell your agent that you are not a roofing company but...Bite My Tung, a pressure cleaning service and that you pressure clean patios, decks, stucco, roofs, wood decks, driveways... "Flat Work" (Bite My Tung) If they insure you like a roofing company you might as well just hand them your wallet and leave with your binder in hand! You are not a roofing contractor. You are a simple humble roof cleaning service... A pressure cleaner with his FEET Flat On The Ground! This is where your finesse comes in... Play the game. Your Game!
Most of my experience is that you can get insured like a pressure cleaner and get away with it... If you have employs workman's comp is another story...It doesn't cover you but your employs if I am not mistaken??? Plus your binder doesn't cover you... It covers your client in case you screw something up like kill the dog and so if you do break your neck you won't sue the bajibas out of them... Dog and Pony Show!
Correct me if I am wrong. In fact educate me if needed guys but that is pretty much how I approach the Insurance Friggin Issue! Works every time. Unless you just want to get overcharged and as long as you are passing out the hard earned Do Re Me trust me next to lawyers and car salesmen Insurance People are next in line and they will take your money ignorant or not. They really do not care to much. Well some do but most just want another notch in their sales belt!
These are just my preceptions and are not necessarly the the opinion of this radio station. Thought I'd put a little humer in...
Speaking of live radio for you computer GURUS out there or anyone who wants to learn more about SEO this is a great link to follow!
If you guys have a dispute please PM each other instead of making a post and IMHO most people are sales agents we try to sell ourselves to get a job no matter if its for employment or business theres good guys and bad guys bottom line everyone is tryin to put bread on the table, so lets keep the peace , thanks
Stuart, I have GL and workers comp. on another business I own. I tried to have a roof cleaning policy written from my current agent. None of the underwriters my agent works with "specialize in pressure cleaning or our specialty here on this site NON-PRESSURE ROOF CLEANING. One underwriter agreed to write a policy for an outrageous cost. I called Joe Walters 2 days ago, and they new exactly what question to ask about the roof cleaning. I got a quote emailed to me within 3 hrs. It was much cheaper then I thought, and almost 3 times cheaper than with my current agent. I am having my policy written by Joe Walters. I hope this help.
He said we are peons in the eyes of an insurance agent. You guys really need to read the posts before you take things personally, he was talking to everyone and did not insult you at all. He did not say your name or call you a peon or anything like that. That can be a problem with text, it is easy to take emotion from it that isn't really there.
And yeah Joeseph Walters FTW (For the Win) not whatever else people think FTW means.

Joe Walters is the best way to go, he knows the business & the risks. No matter what agent or company you go with make sure the policy is set up to cover your bussness and it's specific exposures. As mentioned in a previous post we are not roofers and that type of policy would not cover this type of business.
If the policy doesn't cover the specific type of exposure & you have a claim the company can deny it and the cost is on you. And if you are thinking of trying to sue the insurance company good luck.
Just some thoughts from someone who's father was an insurance agent for 41 years.

I found it a little tough to get someone to write my policy initially. I found a broker that really seemed to work hard for me. He told me that most of the companies did not know what this type of work was and that they wanted to rate it the same way as a roofing company. He said that was putting me way out of the ballpark on price. I eventually landed with Merchants insurance company and the price came in at less than half of the next closest quote that he received. I pay under $1,000 a year. That is a decent price for any business you start up.
Just my two cents.

It seems to be a problem in getting a good insurance rate. I would like to know if anyone has resurched this and found a company that will give a group rate.

I contacted the National Chimney Sweep Guild who currently has 1105 members. They gave me the info on their group insurance company Stratus insurance. I have a call into them and will try to find out if they are interested in our membership.

If nobody has resurched this insurance issue. I will take it upon myself to contact other companies to try and find a company that will recognise our institute and give members a discount.

I see where companies are having problems getting insurance. I know this for a fact. I think a group insurance policy is the best way to go. If anyone has an agent who is willing to give a nationwide group rate please let me know. Or if anyone knows of a company who offers group rates.

You do know you can just edit your first post and add each of those comments into your initial post. That way you don't have to make five separate post for something you could include in just one.
