This is a roof I did for free as a donation to the American Legion and for advertising. It is a log cabin built in 1936. It is just off the square in downtown Fayetteville, GA and gets a lot of traffic. I got a lot of inquiries and a few jobs from it. The roof was heavily stained and had no gutters so it required lots of "love" and lots of rinsing.

We just did half the roof and left it like that for a couple of weeks. Then we finished it. I am going to clean a roof today that called from this free work.

A great way to advertise!

Charity work is great advertisement. Make sure you count the value off on your taxes.

Here is a roof I did on Friday. I used a Delavan 5850 for the 1st time. I had trouble getting the pump to stay primed going through the bulkhead fitting at top of tank. I had to run a line from the inlet on the pump and dropped it into the tank filler opening. No problem with priming after that. I must have an air leak in the inlet connections somewhere. My inlet line in 3/4" and the outlet line in 200' of 1/2". I used 4 different spray nozzles. 0040, 1540, 2540 and 4040. I was disappointed I could not spray from the gutter line and reach the top of the roof using the 0040 nozzle. I ended up walking the roof.

The after picture was taken before Mother Nature has done her job.  Should look even better once it rains.

Lori from Pressure Washer Products had a great deal on 200 feet of 3/4 roof cleaning hose!
ONLY 150.00 !!!

The 1/2 inch hose is screwing you up.
Going to 3/4 from 1/2 inch hose will make you pump shoot much better

She is only over near Largo, Fl !!!

Her Dad might even meet you 1/2 way, since he drives to Orlando sometimes ??

Chris

Thanks for the hose tip. I have planned all along to replace the hose. Just needed to see what would happen with the 1/2" hose and get some funds together. I was going to go with 5/8". From what I have read on the site the 5/8" will work just fine with the 5850 whereas the FatBoy really needs the 3/4". Will the 3/4" provide the ability to shoot the love even longer distances with my 5850?

Hopefully in the near future I am going to purchase an air compressor and air pump.

What did you think of the before & after pictures? The back of the house was the north side and was pretty much black. I haven't been able to get after pictures for the back but when I do I'll post.

Pics were cool!
ANY pump will benefit from a bigger hose !
But, if the GPM of the pump is really low, like on a 1.8 GPM Shurflow, differences will not be that big.

You WILL see a substansial difference trashing that 1/2 hose on your Delavan.

Mike Sullivan and Tim Aselton, as well as myself, have tested this ;theory"

Big Hose is better, and it is always better!

A little, not much.

If you plan on buying a FATBOY in the future go ahead and get the 3/4" hose.

If you are going to stick with the 5850 use the 5/8" hose, it's lighter weight and easier to handle.

Mike

Thanks for your input.

I don't plan on buying a FatBoy in the future. I want to upgrade to an air compressor and an All-Flo air diaphragm pump or something similar. I think the 5/8" hose will work fine with that setup as well.

Here is a job I did last Friday.  We got a nice rain yesterday that finished the job.

I also got rid of the 1/2" hose and replaced it with 5/8" garden hose until I can buy some Kuri Tek chemical hose.  My Delavan 5850 performed much better with the larger hose.

Here are some before and after pictures of my 2nd roof job.  The house constructed in 1977 and belongs to my Dad.  The roof is 8 years old and this is the first cleaning.  My Dad lives out of town so my after shots were just after the job and before it was rinsed by Mother Nature.  Dad called me this week and said it looks even better after it rained.

No one can rinse a roof as well as God Can!
ALL roofs, rinsed or not, always look better after a few rains.
Especially if you use enough surfactant ???

The dried surfactant activates with rain, and re cleans the roof.

Good Job !

Is this just a Florida/Climate thing with the gutters.  I live in the Pacific Northwest and rarely see a house without gutters.  Just one of those regional things I guess.

Good for you Charles !
So many roof cleaning supply joints wanna sell you what they Got, not what is best for you.
Big Hose IS better, no doubt about it.
Especially with the low pressure roof cleaning pumps we all use.
Pressure WaSHERS with 3500 psi have enough pressure to push a golf ball through small 3/8 hose.
This is NOT pressure washing.
'We have very little pressure going for us to start out with.
It is just like having a little money, we cant afford to waste any.'
The bigger and shorter your hose is, the less pressure you pizz away.
The less pressure you pizz away, the faster you spray, and the farther you shoot!
Plus, your pump lasts longer.

Wow, this is all fascinating stuff, but I just want to make one point! The Phillies just SPANKED the Yankees!

Don't deny it Chris, I know that is why you are still up! You had to watch the Phils start their world series repeat bid!
