He fell actually from the ladder, as he stepped onto the roof, after just over 20 years of doing this.
He is in a wheelchair now [since Nov 11th 2014] and the doctors say he will be in it at least a year. Plus, he may need 1 or 2 more surgeries, after he heals and can try to walk on it, because there were a number of small bone pieces that they couldn't remove and may cause too much pain to walk on.
ANYWAY He had already started his own roof cleaning business a couple of years ago, as I couldn't take the stress of running mine 5 days a week anymore, because of health issues that many of you are aware of.
I trained a guy for my son's business and he actually started work, under my tutoring the day after my son fell, as he had work scheduled.
After 2 weeks of training, he's steady, but tends to be a bit sloppy at times and forgetful.
Due to his not listening to my instructions DAILY about flushing out the Delavan 5850 pumps and the entire hose and brass / aluminum guns I make, he burnt up the switches on 5 pumps already!
I knew that was impossible, but I kept thinking "pump problem" so I didn't solve it. My son finally sat out in his wheelchair and after trying to figure out the pump problem, finally ended up taking the gun off the end of the hose and got hit with roof mix back-flo - expecting just water! { My son is an extremely mechanical minded guy and can make, fix or fabricate most anything-heck, he built his own motorcycle once! The guy was leaving roof mix in half the hose! The inside of the gun had a corroded pinhole opening left and was burning up the pumps because of it.
ANYWAY After all that explanation, this is what my son asked me to look into for him!
I told him about many of you switching to air pumps with gas compressors.
He would like the scoop on what to buy, to try that out, so that his worker will have better control of how much roof mix he sprays, plus less chance [from what I have read here] of breakdowns.
If you would, I'd like all the info I can get for him on switching over.
He is not making a lot of $, so while he wants to start out with a professional system, that will last for years, he can't pay a lot to try this.
Please include pros and cons and maybe some links to purchase whats needed.
I told my son I'd do this for him and that if knowledgeable help could be found anywhere, it would be at RCIA.
Thanks in advance and sorry for being so "wordy" [ if that's a word?]

it would be cheaper to fire the guy and find one that can understand rinsing out the pump at the end of the day... Even thought the air pumps are meant to last without rinsing, you should still rinse them out. If you don't rinse the pump, you will still have the corrosion in your hose reel, and wands that you are speaking of.. there are a few posts on the "new forum" about air pumps in the last 2 days
I've only been cleaning roofs and pressure washing for about 8 months. I started with the all flo because Chris uses air. I got my entire set up from Lori at PWP. I've seen Chris post this link before also ://www.kleen-ritecorp.com/c-1282-versa-matic-pumps.aspx . Since you have everything else, all you need is the pump and the air compressor. I run my set up weekly either on a roof or a house wash, no problems yet. Sometimes the all flo stalls, like it looses prime. but you can get it going again pretty quick. I got my air compressor from a pawn shop. Paid $500. but it was a mitm and it was like new. You can also use the one from harbour freight. I don't usually post to much because of lack of experience compared to the other guys here, but my system has been working fine and I do understand how pumps and friction loss and pressures work. Blue Stream,
Your company is out of Florida and you drive a a local fire truck in Lowell Indiana. I'm just curious so help me put the two together.
Or would you suggest a different 1/2 pump? This one is about $300.00 and 1/2" he already has 1/2" Kuritec hose.
Thanks KSROOFS and BLUESTREAM.
I have the 3/8 all flo with the 1/2 Kuritec. My 3/8 was about $300.00, so a 1/2 for that price sounds like a great deal. Never used a different pump myself. But with the air pump you can flow as much or as little as you want. so size only matters if you want more flow. I get plenty with my 3/8. But, Chris should be posting here soon, Im sure he will lead you the right way.

Dave,
I couldn't find a picture of a Tampa truck flowing water, but here is one of ours doing nothing. LOL http://firepix21.smugmug.com/Florida/Hillsborough/Tampa-Fire-Rescue/i-PMZNwV6/3/L/Tampa%20T1%20%5B1280x768%5D-L.jpg

Thanks for the reply! Do you know how many gallons per minute and what psi your 3/8 pump is putting out?
Also, what do you have for an air compressor? My son has a gas, 6.5 HPAir Delivery SCFM @ 40PSI 11.1 Maximum Pressure (psi) 115 Air Delivery SCFM @ 90PSI 9.1 Portable Application Use: Brad Nailing/Stapling,Finish Nailing,Framing Nailing,Grinding,HVLP Painting,Inflation,Roof Nailing. Got any advice on what air pump to buy to use with this compressor?
I am really out of my game with these air units! Always used 12 volt pumps from day 1.

Here is my all flo and the specs on it. ://shop.pressurewasherproducts.com/ALL-FLO-3-8-AIR-DIAPHRAGM-PUMP-9-GPM-AFKE038B3.htm
Here is my compressor. http://www.mitm.com/products/air-compressors/8-gallon-single-stage/AM1-PK07-08M/601/
Your compressor is ready to work. Mine is only 5.5 HP. Hope the links and the diagrams help. I use to know all the numbers. Now i just change tips for reach, pattern or gpm, it doesn't matter, air pump can handle whatever I want. it
